Massive Oil Spill (ABC News) (http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/03/13/2516120.htm)
This one is fast becoming a major political issue here.

Poor Australians, you guys just don't get a break, do you? :blah:
-
Is the fire out yet? I'm going to be sad if the water catches on fire.
-
At least that would burn off all the oil. :drevil:
But I think the worst of the Victorian bush fires are over.
-
I guess the one fortunate thing is that oil floats on the water. So the animals that don't hang around on the surface are a bit less harmed... But I suppose the oil blocks out sunlight for those underwater plants and the phytoplankton that the underwater animals eat. *sigh*
But ecological disaster doesn't compare to the loss of income from fewer tourists.

Bushfires were in Victoria; flooding was in Queensland.

Yeeah, I don't know the difference. Poor, ignant redneck and all that. *shrug*

Jesus Christ, the kind of optimists Australians must be...
