Speedtest (http://www.speedtest.net/results.php)
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/272552122.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Mine isn't anywhere near to the truth. Also, I finally know why HLP's cluster map says that I live in Rome - it's because of the TIM server(I live several thousand kms to the south).

Check the first few lines of my signature. All my speed is belong to there. :)

Goodness, you've got some great ping! :jaw:
Is that your home connection?

School, but as it's an American college I live there as well. (I know that's done differently in a lot of places; it's not meant as any kind of declaration of American superiority.)

Both school, just different servers near me. Decent enough to me--at least at night.

Why is the server in Perth?! Don't they have anything closer?

Actually, the public universities in Singapore have hostels too. There's nothing to declare there. More than anything, it's just the American way of education. :)

Stop mucking about and post your speed, Dilmah. ;)
...actually, I'm interested to know why ssmit chose a server so far away. Isn't there a nearer server? Or did SpeedTest.net specify that as the recommended server?

Sorry, I didn't know you could change it.

Yeah, it's not that great. But I didn't get broadband for the speed (I mean, speed is nice, but...) so much as for the always on part. I should have realised the first ones were much too high for my connection.

AAPT 4LYF
I hear internode's good as well. Didn't telstra bring out a cable package recently?
-
I used to run on a 56k dial-up which, although reliable, was painfully slow. It took me over an hour to download 12 MB, and even if I could somehow get it started, it usually stops at 60%.

AAPT 4LYF

I know, I know. I've been meaning to change for a long time now. iiNet and AAPT both look pretty good, and I've got a lead on one that doesn't advertise and gives astonishingly good deals for equally astonishing service. *taps nose*
But I always have too much on, not enough cash, using the net too frequently to pull over for a second and change cars. I'm like a battered housewife, I stick with my man because I hope he'll realise his mistakes one day and show me the love I know I deserve. :(

not bad, but my upload speed sucks. /

Are those specs real? As I said before, mine are a bit exaggerated(about 10 times higher than the de facto specs).
-
Mine are definitely accurate. :)
-
I tried doing a speed test from the wireless inside the main building on my campus and was ashamed. They do however make up for it in the network speed in the dorms.

Terrible download speed yet not bad upload speed, what goes on?

Something's wrong with the uplink either on the ADLS modem or on the ISP's end though, a lot of time any bigger packages can't get through at all and it seems to go worse gradually after modem reboot. The last was done immediately after modem reboot and router re-connection, and it shows pretty much how the connection should be working. Downwards, it's extremely sufficient I would say... :)
Download rates of +2MBps are not a rarity with multithreaded downloads from good mirrors. Linux images and packages usually arrive at 1800-2100 Mbps range. But the upload speed is rather low even when the uplink graciously accepts to form.
Thankfully this doesn't seem to accept small packages like the ones used by IRC, SSH or multiplayer gaming, but file transfer protocols just seem like failing. :blah:
EDIT: Like you can see from this test done just few minutes after the previous one.

Is that why mura once said on FS2 multi that your router exploded?

Is that why mura once said on FS2 multi that your router exploded?
Actually the router in the connection has now been demoted to bridged ADSL modem and routing is now done by an old 1 GHz AMD T-Bird PC running IPCop. It has more than enough steam to route all the packages as far as LAN load is concerned... There's nine people using the connection, and the modem/router's apparently limited capacity to do the routing was creating bottlenecks and causing disconnections and timeouts. Current setup is a lot more stable, but it appears there's still something wrong with the modem since it's upload capacity seems to degrade after few minutes of activity. So no, it's not directly the same problem any more, but might be related to the unstability of the modem/router as a whole.
Might have to go shopping a new ADSL modem at some point...

My upload speed is crapping me out. (see earlier post) :hopping:

I wish I could actually USE more than 100kbps of that 8MBPS...
That, or this whole speed thing is fake anyway, cause most of it is unusable.

At home:

But ironically, tossing the recommended server for one MUCH further north:
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/359705533.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
This is not a direct number, just the numbers for my primary machine. There are servers on a bridge firewall that get higher than that, but all the internal traffic is managed.

Hamilton? Isn't that the capital of Bermuda?
On another note, I always thought that upload speeds should only be slightly slower than download speeds.

Not over here they're not
I have a dl speed of 512kbps for an upload speed of 10kbps, and that's commonplace
