I recently switched to using the 3.6.10 mediavps and the exe and for some reason Seraphims now seem a heck of a lot more lethal than before.
Before I used to be able to take them out pretty easily but now whenever I so much as touch them in the later missions they seem to get really pissed off and immediately try to gun me down with all those shivan lasers, often resulting in a very quick death. It makes one of the escort missions towards the end of the game a LOT more difficult than I remember it being in the previous version.
I'm curious as to whether or not there was any intentional changes or fixes to the Seraphim bomber between 3.6.9 and 3.6.10.
Is this an unintentional glitch of some kind or did something that was broken before get fixed?

There should be no difference in the way that the AI functions. But IIRC a big hole in the shield mesh was fixed. So that could be it.
-
They were always pure evil. You just had easy difficulty settings. Welcome to the big leagues.
-
I do reckon it was that shield hole Blowfish mentioned. I noticed they weren't going down as quick too.
-
What shield hole? I've never seen anything like that, at least not with primaries.

The Seraphim used to have a big hole in its shield mesh.
-
that shouldn't matter. even if a ship has a partial shield mesh the weapons will still damage the shield, not the hull.
Ive tested it.

Well, boot up retail and check it out -- I believe it was in the front?

Ok now this is a bit odd, after playing a few times I think it only happens in Exodus (act 3, mission 6 I think).
To be a bit more specific, for some reason a wing of Seraphims would seem suddenly target me all at once guns blazing and ignore everything else. I pretty much get engulfed in weapons fire and vaporized before I have time to do anything.
It seems to only happen in that one mission, Seraphims in other missions don't do this at all even if I try to intentionally try to provoke them into doing so.
I'm pretty sure it's the same wing in that mission every time, it's one of the first wings of Seraphims to jump in. It's on medium difficulty by the way.
Wierd.

Did you shoot them? If yes, there is no problem.
Are you too close to them? If yes, there is no problem.
If those two aren't valid, have you ever tried using the afterburner?
-
Unless you are flying an Anubis, in which case your death is nothing strange - even expected. :drevil:

I've always found in the later years of playing fs2 that seraphim were a lot more nasty than usual when my flying patterns and tactics changed. Taking them head on is not recommended. Their lasers do have great coverage in front, above, and on the bottom of the bastard bomber. The best you can do is long range them, but their shields are damned thick to have any missile do any actual damage besides taking out a shield. Raelly, your left with just getting in back of them. Nahemas are similarly evil, i've haerd they're weaker, but to me they seem to take just as much firepower to take down like a seraphim requires.
One thing i know for certain, it is hard chewing through their shields
-
I'm sure you're thankful then that Volition didn't decide to keep the turrets the Nahema had in the demo. :p
-
If the Nahema had turrets in the demo, I didn't notice them shooting at me. :p
-
V should have kept those on the nahema.
-
I agree, they're far too fragile to not have defences, although they are comparable to Athenas with their speed and jaw-dropping dogfighting capability.

That happens to me sometimes - they all turn on you if you get too close or shoot at them and/or when in front of them.

Nahemas are the only Shivan bombers that almost always die by dual Trebuchets on any difficulty.
-
Not that turrets will do anything against Trebuchets :P

Have you ever watched the trebuchetted-Nahema die from your missile from it's pilot perspective? Really, a trebuchet travels so fast that without sensors, the Nahema wouldn't been able to see and avoid it.
-
Is the trebuchet targetable?
-
No, and I think elie meant "from the Nahema's perspective". I don't think I've switched to the viewpoint of a Nahema while chucking Trebuchets. Sniping is always a first priority thing for me in FS2. :)
