It's pretty much evident that FreeSpace 3 is out of the question, and everybody is starting to make posts about it, "FS3 a possibility? (No flaming please.)"New Ideas for FreeSpace3" are just a few of the topics that have popped up lately over at the VBB, and people all of great ideas, it's just to bad FreeSpace 3 will never become a reality... or will it?
To save time I'm going to put the basic ideas of the game in point form...
- Imagine FreeSpace 2 without any prewritten scripts or missions
- Imagine being able to join any race and fight against real people in real time
- Imagine being able to start your own company, and create advanced weaponry, spacecraft for Terrans, Vasudans or Shivans
- Imagine a game with no end...
- Imagine commanding those of which are lower ranking then you
- Imagine downloading all of your missions in real time, so you don't know what is going to happen next
Originally this was a concept for the creators of EVE (//"http://www.eve-online.com") But when I had completed the design, I realized that the game just wouldn't be the same without Terrans, Vasudans and Shivans. Of course, Interplay wouldn't go for this idea, but they cannot do anything if it created by gamers. We could just consider it a BIG mod. So far, the only things I see that need to be added into the game are

- The ability to "jump" into a game that is already in action
- The ability to fly a support ship and dock + relaod other fighters/bombers
- The ability to download mission briefings within' the game
- The ability for the higher ranking officers to "command" cruisers and corvetts.
- The ability to make intersystem jumps in game

I realize that some of these would be hard to put in, but imagine the fun you would have...
Volition's help is definitely going to be needed for this one and without their help this project will probably be a no go, and for some reason, I'm thinking that this project is going to be a no go, but hey like I said, it's still worth a try.
Right now everybody reading this has to ask themselves two questions

- Would you want this to take place before Descent: FreeSpace The Great War, or after FreeSpace 2?
- Are you going to help, or are you going to let Interplay get he best of us?

Volition would not help in such a thing, they have their own projects.
However if the source code is made available, then this could be a possiblity...

That is unfortunately the truth... However Volition made it evident that the will NOT be releasing the multiplayer code when they release the source...

Without the MP source this would be impossible.
