Title: PTMC Lounge
Post by: admiralxgmx on March 29, 2009, 08:34:45 pm
I created a Descent/FreeSpace forum today and need some members and posts.  Please join and help out.  Thank you very much, the URL is: http://s1.zetaboards.com/PTMC_Lounge/index/

"Please join my Forum"...The last time this request was made, the results weren't pretty. My advice here is the same as the last time: Create content first, then open the forum. The FreeSpace community currently has 4 main forums, this one, game-warden.com and sectorgame, with fsmods being the smallest. Every one of those (found via the "External Sites"-Menu on top of the page), has something unique to offer, i.e. mods or TCs that can't be found elsewhere. An empty forum waiting to be populated isn't very inviting, really.

Further advice: Don't create subforums without them being requested. Again, it makes the place look even more empty.

There is a forum for AG, my "project" and my "second campaign"

The "Hosting" forum on Game Warden says otherwise.

It says I'm aware? Cause I'm pretty sure I'm not.

Maybe there is another Blue Lion somewhere, but I don't have a second campaign or a project so I'm just kinda curious where you got you lists from?

By trawling through HLP, gamewarden, and several other places, apparently.

Indeed.  As well as FreeSpaceMods, ModDB, and AddonDB.

May that should tip you off then. If you create 3 forums for the same subject, maybe you need to prune back some.

But why? The community seems content to hang out at the places you sifted through. They work. They all have their own culture. What compelled you to create another forum? Which needs does your forum satisfy, that other places can't? Or rather, what makes your forum special? Why should I join it?

Not entirely.

Trying to scroll all the way to the bottom of the list took forever. I took a nap and had a snack before I reached the end.

Yes. It's emptier. Look, the reason I joined HLP was the fact that things like the SCP, The Babylon Project, Blue Planet and Inferno are hosted here. I didn't join because it looked nice, or because of the people here, but because there are things here that I'm interested in. The reason I stayed is that after lurking a while, I began to appreciate the culture and the discussions here. What would someone like me find attractive abut your forum? Right now, it consists of 266? ( :eek2:) subforums, with nearly all of them empty. That is not my definition of "inviting". Maybe you should consider deleting some most of them until there is a valid reason for their existence.

That is why you can hide the categories you don't want to see.

But why create those categories in the first place? For example, your "Projects" category. There is a subforum for most campaigns EVER RELEASED. Even some that are literally ancient. Why use a subforum, where a simple thread would suffice? Same goes for nearly EVERY category on your "forum". What is the point of all this bandwidthwastery?

Actually they are forums.  I did use some sub-forums though, but not for the projects.

You are either missing or evading my point. Why are you creating so many categories? Are you seriously expecting people to come to your forum, just because there is an empty thread for their favorite campaign/TC/website/company/game/clan?

It seems to be working so far with 4 members within 20 minutes of the site going live.

*Sigh*. I'll be very surprised if that number ever goes beyond 20. I'll be even more surprised when you get an actual community going.
Again, why should I join? And, more importantly, why should I stay?
Saying
It is completely different from this place, just see.
isn't a very compelling argument, you know.

The last time someone posted about this, they had (and to my knowledge, still do) a project dedicated to writing an operating system using visual basic.

You're right, your forum is very different from this place. This forum is real, and your forum is another one of the endless discussion boards with 200 subcategories for topics that don't exist with a forum population of about 20 ADHD 15-year-olds with even less of a life then I have, which is in of itself a truly astounding feat.

Keep it to single topic, thank you very much.

That said, I probably regret for not locking this now. Oh well...

[troll/start]

*Troll Eyes*

Okay

WHAT THE F*CK!

What is the ****ing point of your stupid-ass forum when there's THREE members! What's wrong with HLP? It's not yours? Are you a ****ing control freak who needs to own his own forum of 80+ active members and treat them like his private army to feel content?

FOR ****S SAKE MAN!

ARE YOU ****ING RETARDED! Huh?

WTH? What are you trying to accomplish here?

EXACTLY! What ARE you trying to accomplish? WHY should I, most likely the token black person on this forum, share my presence with your forum?! Because it's "different".........

Ohhh reallly now? It's DIFFERENT, I'm DIFFERENT, I'm BLACK, I'm a year YOUNGER than you, and yet thinking up an idea this ****ing retarded wasn't even a product of MY mind!

YOU HAVE MORE ****ING TOPICS THAN YOU DO MEMBERS!

RAAAAWWWWWRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

If you'd had ANY sense between your ears, you'd have known to look at what happened the last time someone tried something similar

The last time someone posted about this, they had (and to my knowledge, still do) a project dedicated to writing an operating system using visual basic.

You're right, your forum is very different from this place. What he said

Astounding mate......

We'll show you respect, damn right we will if you show this ****ing forum some respect and

A) Play Freespace
B) Talk about Freespace at least a little
C) Offer some kind of positive or humorous influence....this is kind of humorous but an0n way outdoes you
D) Don't try this immature **** here

[troll/end]

Excuse me admins/mods

But he deserved it  :pimp:

EDIT: And I was due to take part in one of these "occurences"

I just made up for all the lost time :P
