I am working on the pegasus fighter and i want to make the textures completele black and also the thruster.ani's but can the hostile ships still see the ships at 500 meters? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I don't think the AI cares what texture the ship is. A solid black Pegasus would be really cool for certain campaigns, though... but at least leave the engines. You gotta have SOME way to find the thing! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

I made a fighter completly cloaked once and the AI's tore it up (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
Only way to make the computer not see it is to set it as stealthed.
(It was still fun for a bit flying around in a see through fighter lol)

to have a completly invisible fighter, put a green map on it (000.255.000). That looks great for some effects, and I'm using it for my TC (don't ask please), but unfortunately, voodoo 2 cards doesn't seems to handle it, so I have to make a black map along the green one for voodoo2 users (hehe a patch for a user made thingy, -that's the way developpers are working, why not us (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif))

Voodoo3 cards also go bugger with transparent maps. Works really fine on my Viper v770, though. We should test it out on several cards and make a list of the "transparency compliant" ones.

Hmmm, strange, I have a voodoo3 3000 and I put a bunch of transparent texs. in Homeworld. There was no problem at all. Is the problem related to the freespace engine or is it just something that the card is not supposed to support?
If FS2 engine supports transparancy why have I not seen fighters with cockpit detail? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

that's a problem with invisible colour on the 3d models related to the FS2 engine. invisible maps works fine in the interface, right? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Ok, this may be a hairbrain idea, but maybe it can work and with the right texture...why not flip normals on a model 'on purpose'?
Doesn't this create a 'transparant' model?
Ultimately it would be cool if it works the same as whut you sometimes see with the large capships in FS1 (the side closest to you becoming transparant only here it would be permanently?) So if you had a starry sky as texture, it would only show on the inside of the model?

As in 'Sky At Night'? put a texture of a nightsky with stars in the model? So it has some 'natural' camouflage?

I stil like the all green transparency (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) That way when you fly by a cap ship or other "none black with white dots" effect, you're still not spotted (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
Now what I'd LOVE to figure out, (this willrequire code thou) would be a way to say key a button to swap texture maps on your fighter, as in SL when you cloak (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
