Title: Need assistance with FSO launcher on OSX
Post by: louiswuenator on April 06, 2009, 03:07:32 pm
Hey, need some help here.  I installed FSO using the method on this forum, by installing on windows first and then copying to OSX, then getting the OSX launcher.  However, whenever I either open the Launcher, or run FSO itself I get this error:

Unknown Command
Unrecognized command line parameter, "-", continue?

FSO will run after I click OK.  The launcher will not.  Any ideas?

I appreciate the help.

By the way, that whole 'Unrecognized command line parameter, "-", continue?' bug.  It happens to me too, and I can't find a '-' option to get rid of to make it stop.  Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I intend to fix that. it's just a minor problem, don't worry. Although you may not found that '-' in the options, you can find it in the command line drawer. It's the box with no letters in it. Just search for an option that has no letters in it (sometimes it's the first or the last, that's why you may miss it) and delete that option. Then save the file.
Hopefully you can figure out what to do. I don't do Macs so I'm not entirely sure of what that explanation means.

Yeah, I don't think I do either, but thanks anyway.  I might be able to try that if I can get the launcher itself to open.

go to [your username] -> Library -> FS2_Open -> data and open cmdline_fso.cfg with TextEdit

post the contents of this file here... then I hope I or someone else will find a solution

That error message usually means that one of the mod folders you're using has a hyphen in it; the game sees it as being an incomplete command and chokes on it.  If that is the case, tweak your mod folders (and any mod.inis, though I don't know if the Mac launcher supports those) to use something like underscores instead.  Alternatively, you could just have an extraneous hyphen in your command line that you weren't aware of.

Thanks I will try these!

Here is the command line log:

-ogl_spec 75 -mod mediavps -spec -glow -env -mipmap -missile_lighting -normal -3dwarp -warp_flash -dualscanlines -targetinfo -orbradar -ballistic_gauge -

Okay, so I removed the hyphen at the end of all that and the error no longer shows up, however the Launcher still won't open.   It just bounces a few times in the dock and then quits.

I don't know if this helps at all but this shows up in the console log when I attempt to open the launcher:

If all else fails, you can play without the Launcher. You'll just have to add those command-line options manually to your FSO shortcut. Or something. Again, Mac people should explain this since I don't know wtf the procedure with Macs is.
