Heya peeps we r making starwars mod for fs2.
But we need some help.
1st: we need the wavs from starwars, i mean the weapon sounds, engine sounds n so on.
2nd: we need pixmaps for the hud.Coz its funny when Darth Vader speaks and we see a vasudan peep on the hud.
3rd: we have a big problem with how to put working turrets on a stardestroyer.
Royal Guard already modelled :x-wing, y-wing, tie-fighter, tie-interceptor, tie-bomber, deathstar, and a victory class stardestroyer.He even did put shield on the stardestroyer and it looks really good :D
In 1 word we need help, cuz i think this would be great fun to fight around a stardestroyer or a deathstar =]]]

Yeah but there are constant references to 'Human beings' yet no mention of Earth. It's a very strange thing indeed.

would it be possible to rip all the sound effects from xwing alliance?

I have a whole load of laser effects from the movie, but I can't mail them right now.
I think you can extract them from X-Wing vs. TIE fighter as simple WAVs.

Well, it looks very nice, but it also looks too hi-poly for Freespace, 'specially around the missile tube.

My main problem is i dont have x-wing vs tiefighter =[
About copyrights i dont think its a prob when fans make some mods to have fun with it plus its free so we dont wanna earn money with it.
Earth is made for fun but would be kool to save earth against the deathstar :D
Anyone knows how to put working turrets on the stardestroyer?

you gotta cut it in two subobjects then, object poly limit in FS2 is about 820

Its not 1 object, we know the problem with the too many poly/object =]

well, for 1 and 2, can't help.
for 3: when exactly do you have a pb?
first, you must make the turret models, then in TS you have to glue them with a light ( light as sibling), then glue the turret+light object (called turret01, turret02 etc) to the main hull as child.
Then, you have to convert the model, when it's done, you have to make the pof data for the turret ( somebody else could explain it better than I do, I do that in model view, I open a V model, copy the data from one turret of this pof, and paste it), then you have to make the turret entries in the ship tbl ( look at other ships entries to do so )

Yeah, even if you cut it down to half the polycount, remember that TIEs are designed to be launched en masse. Hence, no shields, thin armor, and no life support. Two wings of these guys and FS would slow down considerably.
On a side note, there are THREE Star Wars modding threads in the HLP forum. We need them merged, or something...

I've tested the tiebombers and there werent any major slowdowns and even the Stardestroyer was ok since its 2 objects also.But has a z-buffer depht problem >=[ so he must solve that.

Doesn't the Deathstar fall into that category of ships that are just too big to model for FS? Example: The Vorlon Planet Killer. It's a shade under Forty Kliks long, the DS is easily many times that if it gets mistaken for a moon.

I got it! Moon Base Alpha falls into a wormhole cause DS9 dropped by ball and now is hurtling toward Earth. The Alliance is beside itself case they have nothing powerful enough to destroy the moon... Then out of the shadows a cloaked figure offers the Alliance a "deal" in return they can have the services of the newly commission "Death Star" 3 !!! It is the only thing that can destroy the rogue moon before all hope is lost "no, there is another"...
BTW: That Galaxy isn't so far if you take the highway... :D

were do people get this crazy notion that the FS engine is incapable of rendering larger ships, scale never afects anything, so long as everything is scaled, you can have a model that is 100 trillion light years long in it, you probly wouldn't be able to see much of it, just a flatly colored blob that takes up half the screen, but FS would have no problem with it

ships already done: tie fighter, tie interceptor, tie defender
ships coming soon: tie advanced
ships already begun: assault gunboat, xwing, victory star destroyer
one guy here on the hlp board also individuated some meshes about xwing, bwing, ywing, awing that i was going to use (if the author lets me use em of course)
another guy also posted sometimes ago some great meshes about a imperial star destroyer and a super star destroyer
more again, in the xwa community there are a lot of other modders with a lot of meshes...i was going (whenever i'll have time) to ask em for help/free meshes, some guys also created a sound pack that may be very useful (if they let us using it) to avoid copyright problems

i see no point in workiong with two different team in two different modding projects but the same objective (have a working starwars mod), if you agree i thin that we can unify our efforts in order to have a better result in less time:)

exactly.
My best exemple: I have planets at real scale in FS2 :p (and, should I add, those planets are gaz giants, not a punny liittle earth :p )

I have a scale model of jupiter, set with proper rotation and everything,
and for the record jupiter is 142984000 meters wide

Lol, I couldn't be that precise to convert planets in TS :(
that reminds me I have to remake those planets with better UV maps and... ah crap, that's not fun doing those things :(

Well im only a tester and ambassador :D Royal Guard makes the models and Max Pain made the textures for the tie bomber.
So we should have a netmeeting to speak about the future plans =].
I try to get royal to this forum so he can be more specific about the problems.

As you could read , our bigest problem is adding turrets...
But sounds , pixmaps , tables are also needed.
I will continue making ships if few peeps will join to turn them a full MOD. I am only a "sunday driver" modeller , but I like SW and love space ans stars.

Nice looking, but be sure to add in possibly some of your own created sound effects. That what my team is going to be doing for a number of our projects in the future. And be sure to give the Star Destroyer turrets in the places accordingly. Try using reference materials such as the Star Wars Technical Journal, Guide to Vehicles and Vessels, and also be sure to use other games.
Sound effects can be ripped from a number of games, but I wouldn't just one to get everything from.

One question off this subject though can someone please tell me how to convert Homeworld Mods over to FS-2 I have some cool BSG mods I want to convert over. I know some ol' boys were working on BSG before but I would like to take a crack at it - Thanks, Mike

Don't forget that Star Wars ships go about 10 times faster than FS ships. The weapons on the ships have ranges of over 10 kilometers as well.

well, in the Xwing series, they don't look like they go much (I insist on the much so you don't yell at me because I know they do go a bit faster) faster than in FS2

So does that mean it's gonna take some creative editing for the tables in regards to speeds and weapon ranges? (just to make it balanced that is)...

probably. anyway, they'll have to limit the speed, coz otherwise the ships will jump out of the jump hole, and it looks baaaad :p

actually a tie fighter has a top speed of 100mglt, and it is written in the techs "atmospheric speed: 360 km/h"(if not wrong)
if you take the speeds with a cronometer (i did...) a tie fighter goes in xvt (xwingvstiefighter) at the exact (if i remember well..) speed of 107 m/s
of course in game to have the hud saying "100" like in the sw games it will be bringed to 100 m/s...just a bit faster than the standard fs2 speeds
the standard lasers have a range of about 1,6 km (or 1,65..boh) and goes at about ( not sure again, i need to check on the charts i have) 2000 mglt (20 times a tf)
in the fs2 engine the lasers at 2000m/s are a bit too fast...already verified...so maybe their speeds will be decreased
the turbolasers instead have a much greater firing range, 6/6,5 km
so afterall, they don't differ too much from the fs2 parameters... but obviously i'm talking about starwars games..not sw enciclopedia or similia...
whta differ a lot instead are the sizes of the ships.... they are toooooo small for the fs2 engine, so i doubled the size of all my fighters... i will decide instead the scaling factor for the capital ships when i'll have some capital ships:p

I will place accurately the turrets at that very moment when I CAN place them... This is my greatest problem: capital without turrets.

All the ships you saw on the screenshots are fully functional and ready to fly.
But...If we form an aliance with Karma , I will rebuild all of them with higher detailes and nicer textures.

I dont care about other games. I'd like to make it as close to the original SW universe as possible with FS2 engine...
The size? Yes...I doubled the ships too...and capitals , and speed , etc...and then it works well.
But...Deathstar... We can use a full scale one... there is no limit for size. But there is a serius limit for GAMEFIELD...
you cannot go farther from the startpoint than 32km (or so , I dont remember) Therefor the practical limit for a ship is about 50km (the original DS has 120km diameter)
