Hello, all. I was reading this post (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=61459.msg1227731;topicseen#new) just now when I noticed the new badge on IceFire that has the tooltip "Volition Watch Alumni" when I run my mouse over it. Just a question of curiosity: Can anyone clarify?
A SIX LETTER WORD ON ONE LINE! WHOO!

He was on the Volition Watch staff team is my guess.

Check the VW Archives (if they're still on and running). Also, this thread doesn't belong to General FreeSpace Discussion.

I don't get that either I tried looking up for that site but found nothing, and why it should not be here, if it's a freespace related theme right??
-
It's not about the FreeSpace games/Universe. It's about a badge given to an extremely important HLP member. I fail to understand why this matter should be discussed in General FreeSpace Discussion.

I agree here.
-
It's addressing an aspect of the FreeSpace community more than anything else, so I don't see how it's doing any harm here. Plus, I find it far less offensive to the board's purpose than much of the fluff that winds up in here, so here it will stay for the time being. :p
-
Which fluff? :nervous:
-
You got one moved, don't get pushy :p

Who cares? He had a question, it got answered.

Its a status that we applied (if I remember right) to all of the former Volition Watch staff members but since I'm the only one that posts here still (I'm not sure if Remora, Dynamo, Orange, or any of the others are still around at all) you'll only see the symbol attached to me. The other HLP admins decided to setup a proper icon for it...I made the icon. I'm thankful for the nod to the old site and past efforts.
Volition Watch was at one time the FreeSpace site to go to (if I don't say so myself). We were actually more than just FreeSpace. Summoner and Red Faction were things that we covered as well. It was a combined effort from people all over the community that took allot of separate sites and combined them into a single super site. At the time HLP was a fairly small site with growing MOD aspirations.
Later when we ran out of time and interest we shut down the site.
Its still out there although most of it doesn't work properly anymore... http://www.volitionwatch.com/

The Descent Network used to be like that too, except that it covered Descent in addition to FreeSpace, Summoner and Red Faction.
It seems that most of the site still works. Even TechFS is still working properly: http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/techfs/

That brings back memories... when I first was interested in FreeSpace (2006, I had played the FS1 Demo countless times before, though) I kept looking through that site - I remember when I first saw the Sathanas picture they had for it's entry in the database, I somehow disregarded the closest upper arm, and thought the Sathanas looked like a bird.
-
Good times. :)
-
I used to read TechFS a lot. It was the second FreeSpace-related site I found (HLP being the first).

Tech FS is almost as good as the Wiki. ;)

Stop that **** now.
You are not a moderator. Stop trying to tell those who are how to do their jobs.

But who watches the watchers?

But who watches the watchers?
The watchers of the watchers of the watchers of course.
-
But who watches them? :p
-
Me. Now pipe down before I watch this into a lock. :p
-
Actually, maybe it should be locked. The question posed at the beginning of this thread has already been answered, and now it's just devolving into silliness.
-
On second thought, you're probably right.
