Title: New website
Post by: Darius on April 11, 2009, 01:03:33 pm
Revamped the website layout. Should be a bit easier to navigate now.

Oh, I really hate saying this, buuuut...I liked the old one better. It had that beautiful background, and a more spacious, open feeling.

This one's got a bit too much metal. Blue Planet's mood has always been kind of atmospheric and airy.

I dunno, just visceral feedback. I bet a simple background change could make me happy, and I'm only one constituent.

EDIT: Yeah, the new layout's great; it's just the background.

I'm going to have to agree with General Battuta. I think if the background image were the same as the previous one, it'd really 'lift' the mood of the thing.

I'd have to agree too.  The metal might work for something like Inferno, or maybe TVWP, but BP just doesn't fit with that.

The new one, while shiny, looks claustrophobic.
Everything is compressed to the upper left corner of my web browser.

I also agree with the above.

Good new layout though.

I liked the old one.

Well since we haven't played WiH I wouldn't know if the new look fits with that or whatever, but from what we know from AoA the easy-going look suited that particular setting more. TBH I don't really mind, they give off two different "Feels" IMO, the current one gives it a grittier feel, while the old one was a bit more "Wild Blue Yonder" ish. Stick what you think's right though.

Sent the website back into outer space again. How does this version look?

Good. The text is a tad bit hard to read near the atmosphere of the planet, but otherwise it's excellent. Though there's no blue to be seen.

Looks good.  Just one question ... where did the "screenshots" section go? :(

It's going to be a subsection of "media", along with music and video. Will go and set it up sometime tomorrow.

You're forgetting. Titan has an attention span equal to the square root of the attention span of a goldfish.

But what if the attention span of a goldfish is <1? :nervous:

Ehh ... nevermind ... stupid math thing.

No. I just haven't been on this board in a while.

Excuses.....

I don't use excuses. I use reasons. Two totally different things.

But here it's an excuse, because there's nothing stopping your from reading old threads.
It's not like they get deleted if they get bumped off the first page (and it wasn't even off the first page).

Oooh hey ... screenshots and music sections of media are up :D.  Also, I spy an unidentified ship on the music page, matching Steve-O's general style.  Is it that artillery ship from the UED Solaris video? :nervous:

The new site looks more professional, but I agree on considering the background a bit poor, especially if compared to the old one...

Is it bad if I can't read the text because of the edge of the planet being too bright?

Also, just my opinion, but the UEF eagle logo looks kind of sinister, and not something I'd like to salute if I were a pilot.
I can almost picture a "Would you like to know more?" banner at the bottom.

Edit: Ah, but I see it's already been worked into some of the ship textures (or at least squad logos)... well at least I'd like to see a prettier looking 'full' version, instead of the techno backdrop and ochre-glow thing.

Changing layouts like underpants (http://blueplanet.hard-light.net).

Should be a bit more readable now :)

It's nice, but I still would rather the old one.

There's another change on that page which is subtle but will have big gameplay benefits. See if you can spot it.

(unless I'm wrong, Darius?)

How does changing a website affect gameplay?
Title: Re: New website
Post by: General Battuta on June 22, 2009, 02:04:40 pm
It is something you will now see in-game which is quite pretty.

The new interceptor?
Title: Re: New website
Post by: General Battuta on June 22, 2009, 04:09:51 pm
Ooh, that too!

It's subtle, but it's on the main page.

EDIT: Actually, I have no idea if it is, looking at it.  :nervous: So never mind.

Fighterbays on the Karuna?
Title: Re: New website
Post by: General Battuta on June 22, 2009, 04:17:07 pm
I think it's always had those. There are even little model Uhlans inside, I think...
Title: Re: New website

I give up.
Title: Re: New website

I took out the fighterbay for the Karuna, since it's something that you're hardly ever going to see and it used up a ton of performance. So no mini-Uhlans on the inside for you. :)

I'd say it was a graphical benefit, rather than gameplay.

Yeah, that would've been better phrasing. More eyecandies!
