Alright, so feel free to talk like you're talking to a 5 year old, because I'm having serious problems with all my mods, but I'm focusing on Inferno cause it seems like one of the better ones out there.
Currently, aside from an error with one pareselo.cpp, I am missing 20 ships from the game. As far as I know, I ran the .exe fine, installed cleanly.
I also ran separate installers for the various faction's ships found on Inferno's site.
I'm running the 3.6.10 build, but I was having problems with the 3.6.9 build, as well.
Can I get a run through of the right procedure for installing Inferno just to make sure I got it right? I jsut wanna be thorough.
Any help at all would be much appreciated.

Inferno doesn't run on normal SCP builds, does it? You'll need a special Inferno build.
-
I assume you want to play InfernoR1 (INFR1) because Inferno: Alliance is a different matter...
If you installed INFR1 from here (http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.95) or here (http://inferno.hard-light.net/R1.htm) you can play it with the Inferno build from here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,62210.0/topicseen.html)
or you add the SCP patch (http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.353) into the INFR1 folder - then you can use the Regular SCP build from here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,62210.0/topicseen.html)

No. All released Inferno mods work with regular builds. Only future releases require the special INFBuilds.

Oooh, okay. Thanks!

just for me to understand (and maybe other people): why is then the "SCP Patch" called "SCP Patch" with the info "Patch to allow R1 to work under the standard version of The Souce Code Project"?

Brain21: Your problem is familiar. Are you trying to run INFR1 with S:AH or vice versa?
Tinman: Without the patch, INFR1 isn't FSO compatible.
-
When I run it under the proper Inferno build executable, with S:AH selected as the mod, I jump from missing 20 ships to 6, so I guess I'm on the right track.
Further, S:AH is one mod I had problems with.
I'm playing through it to remember what went wrong. For the year 2357 it crashes about 2 seconds into the second mission where you protect the EACv Justice from raiders.
Working on the others now
EDIT: I'm missing the GTF Vesuvius and the GTCv Carolina from the first mission, so I believe it's just GTVA ships I lack.
-
:wtf:
Are you playing the Inferno GTVA Chapter with SAH?
-
Not usually, but I tried it based on Mobius's question, and the number of missing ships went from 20 to 6.
So clearly, it's a problem with my ships install locations or something similar.
I installed the inf_release1 app into a folder, and looking into it, I've noticed that the Data folder's empty.
-
I'll admit to being just an onlooker, but I'm confused...
Could you post up a screenshot of your directory structure (file/folder positions etc)?
-
I must admit, there's a lot of random crap in it, cause I did a total guess-and-check type thing with my mods. I think i install things properly but then it doesnt work right :/
Ever.

Remove 1bppatch.vp and everything beginning with INF from your \freespace2\ directory. Then do what Tinman said: put your InfernoR1 stuff to the \freespace2\INFR1\ folder, put the Inferno SCP patch there as well and then run the game.
Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER!!, ever put any non-retail .vp files directly to \freespace2\.

Partial success. Thanks for showing me my main problem was, I appreciate it.
The campaign loads fine, but now I have no Vesuvius fighter to select. On the ship selection screen, the description of the ship is there, but not ships on the lower left :/

It also looks like you have the single VP and the multi VP versions of R1 there at the same time.

Does the reset button in that menu work?

Okay, now you know what the problem is, but I just want to emphasize what happened. Open the attachment.

Alright, resetting the ship selection worked, and I've finished the campaign.
Thanks you guys for the help, maybe now I can get more campaigns running properly.

each campaign or mod you wish to play goes into its own directory within the FreeSpace2 folder. then you just pick the mod you want to play from the FSO Launcher.
(MOD tab -> Select MOD -> choose the mod's folder from the directory listing)
so like, example... (looks at the earlier attached pictures)
FreeSpace2/blueplanet -> the blue planet VP, the 1bppatch, 2bppatch (or whatever files related to this mod) go here...
FreeSpace2/cardinalspear -> cardinal spear's files go here
FreeSpace2/mediavps -> MV_Complete or whatever VPs that have to do with the 3.6.10 MediaVPs go here
etc...
(sorry I haven't played BP 3.6.10. so the files are bound to be different but it doesn't matter. you should be fine as long as each mod is in its own folder.)
hopefully u can make sense of what i say :nervous: :shaking:
