Title: FreeSpace 2 Retail: Removed or Forgoten?
Post by: NFSRacer on April 15, 2009, 11:28:27 am
I reinstalled FreeSpace 2 SCP hoping to fix a problem I was having with the game and I found that FS2 Retail is no longer included with the installer.  Was it left out by accident, or was there a different reason?  I don't have the retail version any more since I uninstalled the SCP, so I just would like to know if this is temporary or not.

No, it wasn't an accident. FS2 Retail had been included in the Installer because there was no way to get it easily and legally. Ever since the folks at goodoldgames (http://www.gog.com/) put up a legal, and rather good offer for FS2 online, the retail files have been removed from the installer.

Correct. The retail files are not distributed, because buying FS2 from Good Old Games has the following advantages:
- it's legal
- it's cheap
- the license holders get profit (FS2 failed commercially because of poor sales; let's not let it happen again)

There is no need for further discussion, so locked.
