Very off topic I know, but I just had to post it. I was digging through some old stuff and found this, it's the first ever model I made in 3DS Max back in about grade 5 or 6. I handed it in for a school project. Man this takes me back. So here we go, I present the VF-1 Valkyrie from Macross (It transformed too, I remember, though not too well)

Apologies for the quality. Had to take a picture from my phone being as I don't have a scanner.
EDIT: Aug 20 1996, had the date written on the back.

 Valks rule the sky
That reminds me, I think I still have a print out of a PzKpfw VI Tiger I made using CAD in high school, probably buried in a drawer some place.
-
:eek2: Is that detail texture or actual model?
-
Some of both.
-
So if you're a student studying 3d design do you get 3DSMax for free?
-
No, but you get a discount
-
And how much did it take for you to model that? Including everything such as digging up references, texturing, making that background, etc.
-
My bet is that it's a hijacked image for the background, Brand's even done a few FotG renders like that :)
-
They used to have a free version of 3DSMax but they got rid of it... Blah. :blah:
Doesn't the full version cost like a thousand dollars or something?
-
I guess if you're using it commercially, probably something like that.
-
Yes, it's several thousand dollars. The background is an image that came with stock 3dsmax, I think it was called sky2.jpg or something.

There is still a "free" version of Max - Gmax (http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax), it lacks the rendering ability and other stuff, but all modeling features are there.
-
Wait, I thought they got rid of GMax a while ago?
-
They're not supporting it or anything AFAIK, but it's been released and it's free - they can't unrelease it or slap a price on it after the fact, so it's still around and still legal.
-
Hmm...releasing something for free and then trying to unrelease it...where have I seen that before...bah it's probably not important. Rest assured we'll never pull something like that.
