Hiya
Sorry to make a new thread, I tried searching but had no luck (jeez there's a lot of info around here!)
New to FS2 Open, got FS2 from GOG, used Turrey's installer to grab EVERYTHING :) but i have two problems.
1) I'm trying to bind the sticks on my 360 controller to movement axis but for some reason roll (bank) isn't responding. The options menu detects the control input when i try to bind it but i get no banking in the game. Woss all that about then eh?
Also is it possible to bind controller akis to 'thrust' in some way without resorting to joytokey? I'd like one stick on the controller to control lateral and vertical thrusters while the other stick controlls pitch and yaw and the analogue triggers controlling roll (bank).
2) Track IR 4 no workie. Updated game profiles and drivers, Freespace 2 is in the list but doesn't hook when fs2 starts. Any ideas?
Cheers in advance....

It is sad that no one has replied. Unfortunately I cannot help with the controller issue since I know nothing about joysticks/pads and stuff like that. But I did pick up something from your post.

Does this include the MediaVPs? If yes, do they actually work on your end? The MediaVPs downloaded by the Installer tend to be corrupt and usual symptoms are crashes when loading missions, invisible ships and so on. If you are sure that they work, carry on. But if in doubt, go to the FreeSpace Upgrade Project board and download the MediaVPs manually from the stickied release thread.

I do know, or at least I'm fairly sure, that FS2_Open as it stands supports only four controller axes, and will be limited to such until the (theoretical) pilot/input changes come into play somewhere down the line. I also know, via me fooling around with a PS1 controller connected via USB adapter, that the game can recognize two analog sticks on a gamepad as those four axes. What I couldn't tell you is which axes FS2 selects on the 360 controller by default, or whether or not the ones it doesn't select can still be assigned as simple buttons. I seem to remember someone fooling around with a 360 controller once and getting the game to recognize the two triggers as simple on/off buttons rather than axes, but I don't know how he managed it. If you've assigned the triggers to bank left/right, are you sure that you're pressing them in all the way when you test them out?

Yay some replies :) Was getting worried after 60 views and no response :)
Yer I've figured it'll only recognise a limited number of axis, but I've been able to bind SOMETHING satisfactory using joytokey, not perfect but it'll do.
Still no luck with the TrackIR issue though and tbh it's the things I was most hoping to get sorted... :/

I seem to remember that getting both analogue sticks to work in FS2 or FSO is impossible due to the way the current joystick code works. Your only solution at the moment may be ppjoy/joytokey, etc.

Yer thanks, jury rigged with joytokey so that the x axis of the right stick actually triggers keypresses to turn.
The problem was that the game couldn't interpret both x and y input on the same stick at the same time...
After much fiddling i'm fairly happy with the gamepad now, but I find the lack of TRACK IR disturbing...
