Title: Music: All Alone
Post by: blackhole on April 17, 2009, 04:02:01 am
All Alone (http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/230484)

After doing all this crazy techno stuff, I wanted to make sure I could still compose an emotional piano piece. A nice, slow, easy to listen to piece.

Ok, I'm gonna be brutal.

Did you have the mic inside the piano?

Don't be such a downer!

Its a nice piece of music. even the mix of the whole thing is not too bad! and that takes a lot from me to say :p there is a tad too much reverb i'd say.... but maybe thats personal.

But that talk about emptynes etc is something I can't stand. Make music because you like to do so, not because your want to be all poetic and stuff.

In my opinion music should create a feeling and not represent one!

I think music does both, after all, how do songs get "made up" in the first place?

So what? That's how they usually get recorded. Anyway, it's a song about feeling alone. Maybe the closeness is supposed to represent the entity's feelings right inside their head, after all, if you feel lonely in a crowd, you withdraw into yourself.

Of course, the song ends in the usual ~BH~ style...

When I feel alone, I don't feel like I'm inside a piano someone else is playing.

I get your point, but it was just so jarring it ruined it for me.

It took me a minute to find out who you were replying to. Did you reply here to a guy on the site?

I find this highly amusing.

This song was not recorded live - I manipulated the sampling in FL studio so that it sounded like it was being preformed live. Everything I did with the piano was designed to trick you into thinking it was a live preformance. Obviously, it was a complete success. I never once touched a piano during the composition of this piece :D

Definitely my favorite since Finding Purpose.
Although I still don't think you've managed to outdo that one.

I'm not familiar with musical... whatever technical terms. I knew you didn't play an actual piano with a mic in it, but hell if I know what the term is to describe what it sounded like, or the method you used to make it.

I will not lie, the first thing I thought of when I heard this was that ol Mickey Mouse cartoon where him, Goofy and Donald are super tiny and eating all the food. The whole time I'm thinking "How is this not killing their eardrums?"

You, sir, have bizzare taste in what a piano should sound like.

It shouldn't sound like I'm inside it, but that's just me. If everyone else loves it, hey.

Well...theoretically you put the mic inside the piano. Besides, your "piano" in some songs sounds unlike any "real" piano I've heard, which indicates you either used a synth or modified a real piano sample. By the way, can you actually play the piano, EMcM (besides hot cross buns)?

I still like it, but I think I can understand the problem of Blue Lion.
Or it least for me, the realistically sounding piano, while being unrealistically "close to the source" of the sound feels a little odd.

I didn't take 12 years of piano lessons for nothing :P
