Thought I'd post this thing I found while hunting for some XP skins...
http://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?skinid=7352&libid=32
Maybe you'all didn't know about it.
-
Good find! Just hope that it will work on Vista too. :)
EDIT - Works on Vista too. :D

what tool did you use?
-
I find this interesting
-
dude, that's awesome! That's replacing the one that mimics the Ubuntu bootscreen on my computer! :wakka: awesome...
-
Woah...looks awesome.
Now...uh, how do you install it?
and what did you find in your search for themes? any cool Freespace ones? :D
I've actually just finished throwing together a few Descent themes to use on my computer.
-
You'll need the "Bootskin (http://www.bootskin.com/)" Tool, made by Stardock.
-
That's the boot screen.
Remember to get the login screen (http://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?skinid=7449&libid=26) as well. :p
-
How do you install it in windows xp?
-
It says service unavailable?
-
It's a .bootskin file, and I haven't a clue how to use it.

Open it using that.
as for the .logonxp file for the logon screen?
-
That program is for VISTA. I have XP PRO. How do I make it work in Windoze XP?
-
Click the button that says Logon Studio XP (http://www.stardock.com/products/logonstudio/downloads.asp) for the Log-on screen modifier.
Click the button that says BootSkin XP (http://www.stardock.com/products/bootskin/downloads.asp) for the boot screen modifier.
-
Can the Logon Studio XP work with a bootskin file?
-
Good thing that at least the logon thing is unnecessary in Win7.
-
What the crap I'm so confused! I want the boot skin on windows XP! How do I do it?
-
Can the Logon Studio XP work with a bootskin file?
Of course not.
*.bootskin files associate to BootSkin, *.logonxp files associate to LogonStudio.
You need to install BootSkin to use *.bootskin files and LogonStudio to use *.logonxp files.
-
Okay, I got that. Gee, do I feel stupid; naturally Stardock made a version of bootskin for windows xp. Something as simple as clicking a stinkin' link; go ahead, call me a fool.
I found Bootskin XP for the bootskin, and I'll install it that way. Thanks for t3h help.

After installing or attempting to install has anyone had any problems? Any post install ...reviews? Im unsure wether to try it or not. Dont wana mess up my PC.
-
They work fine. Both of them.
If you have widescreen monitor, the log-on screen's positioning might be a bit off center though.
-
Mine causes problems. The Logon screen works fine but if I install the bootup screen my computer can't boot windows.
Nothing I couldn't fix by going into safe mode and resetting the bootscreen using the program, though.
-
Strange.
By the way if you have Stop and Bank Gothic Medium BT fonts installed, you can edit the fonts used by the login screen to use FreeSpace fonts. This is what mine looks at the moment:

I also edited the background image positioning to be more centered.
-
If you're running Vista, and don't want to install Stardock's software, you can modify the Windows system file containing the background image.
Tutorial:
http://www.techmynd.com/change-windows-vista-logon-background/
You'd have to change all the buttons separately, though.
-
A little late now, but yes this has been discussed before (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,52229.0.html), but I must admit I haven't tried it with Vista yet!

That looks interesting, I might try it out again!

I have it running on my windows XP, and it's t3h aw350m3!
-
