Is it possible for the player to fire the turrets or beams on a cruiser/destroyer?
-
no
but you can skript that...
-
I didn't think so. And since I don't have the slightest clue on how to script, I'll leave it for someone else.
Thanks anyhow. :)

What exactly did you want to achieve?
Fire linking turrets on a capship to the player's ship?
Manually firing turrets on a player-flown capship?
-
This can be done if a couple SEXPs are added. After 3.6.10 is released, said functions will be worked on.
I'll release an updated playable capship demo once this happens.

Seriously? I thought the idea was deemed unpractical and useless by most of the community...
-
Flying an Orion in of itself is pointless. I'm making a campaign around this, and most of the time you're actually in a more maneuverable, loadout-able modified Aeolus. The real battle dynamics are in orders and maneuvering, positioning, and planning.

How would you go about moving your individual turrets?
-
As a gunner?
-
I think it would be cool to take over a turret after you die, just for kicks and giggles.

Here's an idea: Left click fires all beam turrets where you're aiming and are in their firing arc, and right click fires anti-fighter beams or flak (by switching weapons). For the flak you could have it detonate at the distance of your target.
