Hello,
while playing the Homesick mod, the game crashed after I hit the Continue button on a red alert screen. I read some topics about this and found no solution, apart from that it looks like the "infamous red-alert bug of 3_6_9". So I tried to use the latest builds as mentioned in the FAQ ("fso_open_d-20090327_r5119" and "fso_open_d-20090318_r5106") but it crashed also.
It may be worth mentioning that I already played successfully different mods with red-alerts, and that the present crash playing the Homesick mod does not occur at the first red-alert screen.
The fs2_open.log file is attached.
I don't think my config is important since everything used to work well before this, but here it is :
ubuntu hardy
old intel centrino CPU
2Gb RAM
ATI radeon X600 SE
Thanks for your help !

Homesick has a bad reputation for having these red-alert issues. There was a fix pack containing working missions, but at least I've lost it. You can, of course, try to fix them yourself. In most cases it is sufficient to set the red-alert status to 0. On some instances it is also necessary to set the scramble status to 1 (don't ask me why; it just works).
But then, a more pressing concern. You have a terrible mess in your FreeSpace.
1. You have DerelictPatch.vp in \FS2\. Wrong. move it to your Derelict folder.
2. In addition to having your retail files and the cutscene pack in \FS2\, you also have them in \FS2\data\. Wrong. Remove the .vp files in \FS2\data\.
3. You have two (different) sets of MediaVPs. Wrong. Based on the number of files in the .vps, I'd say you have the 3.6.10 MediaVPs in \FS2\mediavps\, so remove the ones in \FS2\.\mods\mediavp\.

There were some code fixes but my guess is that once you have the problem you would have to start the campaign over preferably with a new pilot file. Still can't guarantee that would fix your problem.

I have encountered the Red-Alert bug on several occasions, it was using builds around November.

Hi,
thank you Lobo for your comments on the mess in my FS2 folder. It is quite representative of the mess in my brain while trying to install the game from different sources ! I fixed this as you suggested.
Concerning the crash, I set Red Alert to 0 and Scramble to 1, but it changed nothing.
The error message given in debug mode (assertion pm->missile_banks != NULL failed) made me think that maybe something related to the previous mission was causing the bug (like no missiles at the end of the mission for instance ?) and the message of FUBAR-BDHR seems to imply such dependencies between missions. So I replayed the previous mission and the red alert screen passed smoothly !
Then I removed my modified Homesick.vp and re-used the original vp with red-alerts, and the following red-alerts of the mod worked also.
Thank you (all 3) for your responses and congratulations for spending time in solving others' problems,
see you,
Arixo
