The decline of the Nation of Cowards thread notwithstanding, does anyone here participate in any competitive shooting sports?
I have been considering expanding my Olympic repertoire into at least 10m Pistol (probably air pistol to start) and was wondering if anyone had any experience.
Besides, having my pistol skills useful for something other than shooting bad guys seems like not a bad idea ;)

Lame.
-
I saw a gun on TV. That's about as close as I've gotten to firearms.
Oh and I've been pulled over by cops for speeding.
-
i used to shoot rifles
-
Soooooo why was it lame?
-
Does competitive hunting count?
I think it does.
-
Does airsoft count?
-
Does shooting at terrorists count?
Does airsoft count?
No.
-
By terrorists, do you actually mean arabs?
-
Never shot competitively (indeed, it's been years since I practiced against a black-spot target). I practice pistol mainly, .22 and .45 (amusingly, my .22 and .45 actually have consecutive serial numbers. One of them is a conversion for targetshooting.), because of a lack of suitable ranges around here for rifle.
I also wish there was a suitable range for bow here somewhere.

No, he means Counter-Strike :P.
Does shooting with the longbow count? I did that a few times, and I am quite good at it.
-
While I am sure those count as competitions, I actually interested in Olympic type events, as linked in the original post.
Though I did find an IPSC like Airsoft league:

But yeah, was looking for formal target shooting type things...
-
Just for clarification, are we talking gun sports or any form of shooting in general?
I just ask because I used to do competitive target archery. Won a number of tournaments, including one of the indoor state championships. (No, I won't say which state, because then you could find out who I am. :p)
-
We can probably find that out anyway ;)
And gun shooting. Powder or air.

Not competitively, but I go trap shooting nearly every weekend.
Which is why I've got a permanent red bruise in my right shoulder socket. :)

Dang, I couldn't be caught dead shooting that thing. But if you can then it's all good :D Does the competition account for speed and all that or is it just accuracy (the wiki was tl;dr)
-
I think its pure accuracy, they might use speed to break ties. Its one of the questions I have.

That weapon is a single stroke pneumatic, apparently ~20lbs of force on the lever to prime it. Doing that 60 times sounds like it might make me cranky, doing it 60 times FAST, well...
-
I perform very well with rifles due to my experience, good sight and self-control. I have intensified my "training" three and a half years ago, and the results are encouraging.
I used a hangun twice or thrice. The last time I used it was about 10 years ago.
-
I shoot air rifles and pistols, looking forward to some C7/8 training this summer. I'm pretty good at paintball.
-
Anyone interested in some honor system, bullseye competition?

Jesus, guys. Am I the only guy on HLP that actually does shoot regularly and competitively? I participate in monthly IPSC action pistol matches using a Browning Hi-Power. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browning_Hi-Power A better one than in that wiki picture, too. I used to participate in M1 Garand rifle matches 3 times a year until one of the guys who was running the thing rigged it so he would win the participation prize that they give out at the yearly Christmas banquet. I shoot rifles for my own satisfaction, as well(personally I only own a beat up old Mauser, but more often I use my father's firearms). I'm also known to participate in the occasional trap and skeet competitions; never anything terribly organized, though.

I do.
I don't shoot competitively, but I do shoot regularly. About every weekend. Trap shooting.

Already said I shoot regularly. But I don't shoot competitively and I haven't fired against a competitive target in years, because that's not why I have or own a gun. I don't expect to be attacked at home by a black spot.
Usually once a weekend. Occasionally more frequently if I feel the desire. I would shoot rifle and bow more if I could find a suitable place to do so.
-
I don't expect to get attacked by brown paper silhouettes, either. The pistol competitions I take part in help with target acquisition. (Also, if I expected to get attacked in my home, you bet your ass I wouldn't be posting on the Internet right now.)

My 10 meter air pistol arrived, if anyone cares about its performance, PM me.
As for combat shooting, that's all I actually do, if you had read the original post you might have noitced I was looking for Olympic (non combat) shooting feedback ;)
I have considered IPSC type things, but that's a lot of travel. I can participate in bullseye locally. IPSC type things are hampered in MA with a lot of the laws related to ranges.

Oh man. MA? You have my sympathies. NC is a lot better with their gun laws; you should come down here sometime.
-
I like it here ;) See "Nation of Cowards" for my thoughts on the gun laws ;)
Pistol is nice, a lot of bells and whistles. Little set screws to adjust virtually everything.
This will take some getting used to...

I don't shoot guns, pretty nifty with a Longbow however, used to shoot in competitions :)
