Hi guys,
I was having a chat to the guys on IRC outlining some problems i'm having with my new graphics card (Radeon HD4870 1Gb).
It seems that the damage sparks effect (on ship debris and damaged capital ships) is making polygons flash white. :shaking:
We eventually found a link to some fixed vertex shaders for this problem, but they don't seem to be available anymore.
Does anyone have a copy?

Yes I do! Let me find 'em and upload. (I have the same card, and I'm very pleased with it.)
There you go! Unrar it and put it in your MediaVPs directory, assuming you use the MVPs (which you damn well should.)

You .rar'ed a 18kb file. Really, why doesn't the forum allow .vp's to be uploaded?
And since the attachment will be deleted in 30 days, here is a permanent link (http://comclan.co.cc/xsera/ma-sdrvfix.vp).

You can't post .vps directly.
-
That appears to have done the trick ...
While it's still ever so slightly dodgy on small pieces of debris, it's hundreds of times better and fixes the problem where it's most noticeable on large ships.
Cheers!

Can someone explain what these "white polygons" look like? I think this may be related with a problem I'm experiencing with my Radeon card, in which certain light sources (mostly beams) light up with bright white light a very large area on a capital ship. This is most noticeable in Untitled Mission 2 of FS2, where you get nice beam spam between 5-6 cap ships.

Heh, I switched away from 4870 because of issues like this. I'm such a nitpicker.

Well yesterday I installed the 3.6.10 mediavps an they are really great. But I seem to have the same problems with the white flickering polygons on hardly damaged ships and debris. I have a Radeon 4870 X2. Is there a solution for this?

Is there a solution for this?
Yes. Reply #2.

The attachment is gone.

Reply #2. Not post #2. You'll see that Dark RevenantX has it hosted somewhere, with a download link in the post.

Thanks. Sorry for my noobishness, but what shall I do with this text-file?
-
Download it; it should retain the .vp suffix. Place it in your MediaVPs folder.
-
:wtf: Text file? The one behind the link
should be is a .vp. And
put it in your MediaVPs directory

Heh, I just came across this for the first time the other day when fooling around with FS2_Open on our family computer. Good to know there's a fix for it.
-
Thanks, it worked. I think this should be stickied.

Or added to the Graphical Issues section of the Troubleshooting FAQ (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,56279.msg1180356.html#msg1180356). As it has already been.
