Title: Costum fonts
Post by: Lucika on May 03, 2009, 06:39:29 am
Where can I create custom fonts?

Like Mobius, you mean? Simple. First, be consistent in your usage, so that it becomes a personal trademark. Second, contribute to the community. Third, hope that the admins are kind enough to create a custom tag for you.

I guess that sums it up.

Yes.

May I ask you why you want a custom font? If the reason is feeling special or anything like that I'm afraid you're making a mistake because it's the white text that makes people special. Despite what people think, using a particular style is not a way to feel "more equal than the others". There are many advantages, like finding posts with ease when scrolling down threads.

Nope, Mobius, I was curious, nothing else.

Yeah and as you can tell by Mobius' post count, he posts a lot and finding his posts would be a real ***** if he didn't have a specific trademark.

That's what the red line in my sig is for. Real men don't need fonts.

I have a lot of posts, I can't remember where I put all of them.

We are the Mobius. Your Wiki will be improved with name origins and non-funny modification descriptions. Resistance is futile.

Uh, yeah. Lock, please.

Not from me.

As far as I'm concerned if you do that and can put up with the rest of the community complaining at what an idiot you are you've done enough to keep it. That's how Mobius got it in the first place after all.

I'm certainly not going to prevent anyone else using them when I didn't do it to him.

I can't say the other admins feel the same though.

Well, I think the main objection to it was people using Mobius' particular signature font. People objected to Grimper using Mobius' tags because it was confusing. Or something.

Like I give a damn about that. :p

As I said, if the person concerned doesn't care about the backlash, why should I?

Plus if everyone does it and it gets annoying enough I'll bury the tag in the grave next to [Glow] :p

Or mass ban people doing it.

Mass banning? Sounds like fun.

GTD Aquitaine

Welcome to training simulator module TSM-103c, Class C qualification for the Myrmidon space superiority fighter. This module has been designed to acquaint pilots with basic targeting, throttle, and weapons systems.

TSM units are approved for use as part of the GTVA combat training program or as a review for qualified pilots. The TSM series is not intended as a substitute for actual field training.

...of course, if you don't have Stop and Bank Gothic MD BT font installed (shame on you if you don't! Get them from Karajorma's FAQ!) that formatting will revert to browser default font I think... Times New Roman, Arial or Verdana most likely. Courier New on the other hand is the most awesome font ever invented, and medium green on black background is the best colour combination ever. If I wanted to start using some special text formatting in my messages, that's probably what I would use.

But I won't. :p

I'm sorry, but does anyone else find this ironic, seeing as its entirely italicized and in blue font? with mobius, /mobius before and after it?

Ever since people other than Maeglamor started using colored fonts in every post they made, I've been annoyed by said posts. Other admins didn't seem to have a problem with it but I don't think we ever really asked what the general community thinks of them. For this reason I've created a poll here; http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,62752.0.html

Go ahead and vote. Personally I'd love to stop colored posts. It's fine for emphasizing text and the like, but I dislike fully colored posts.

Annoys me too. Especially as I have a habit of quoting when replying so it forces me to do it myself, remove their tags or look like I have no idea how to deal with tags.

I highly doubt this is as serious of a dilemma as you think it is.

It's not a dilemma. It's an annoyance. And I like to rid myself of annoyances whenever it is possible.

Who the hell forces you to read them?

I'm an admin. I have to check all posts for subversive messages. :p

Then prioritize spam and flame wars rather than colored posts.

I do. But if you flame and spam in blue text you also make it extra obvious. :p
