Its been 3 years and I still dont have it. Is it worth buying. I'm thing of buying the collectors edition with HL, CS, and 2 other programs for $50.
I downloaded the demo and its buggy as hell.
Is it still worth buying and playing?
-
Hell yes! I just spent part of the last week replaying the whole thing and it still rocks today. No bugs that I've found in the full version either (a few clipping problems and so on but hey - it's a great game!). If you're in the UK get the latest edition of the Generations pack which includes HL, TF, OF and Blue Shift (as well as the high definition graphics) for about £30. If you don't play it you'll be missing out - believe me.
Oh, and you don't need OT here - this place has no OT (I don't think ;))
-
Yes, now go buy it :D
I think I'll install that, just so I can finish OpFor and Blue Shift...
Never bothered to...
-
Don't buy the collectors edition or anything. Just buy the original (or game of the year if you insist), then download all the mods for free. Hell, the patch you have to get for multiplayer comes with TFC and DMC. then just head over to counter-strike.net and get cs.

YES! Over 50 game of the year awards, it rocks!

Doesn't get you the additional packs though... and lets face it - it's hella cheap right now anyways.

Just how many GOTY awards are there? :eek:

Truckloads.
And Half Life is still worth it... I have it laying around somewhere, but never played. Now if I could just find the damn CD...

packs = mods
mods = free
unless you mean something else by "packs"
-
additionnal pack= addon I guess.
-
Opposing Force and Blue Shift - the official addon packs (Blue Shift contains the high-definition artwork that adds somewhat to the game in a superficial way).
They aren't free and can't be downloaded - but since it's so cheap you might as well get the whole thing (IMO :nod: )

Oya those things.... neither of them thou can match good old backstabbing, headshooting, rocket jumping, flame throwing, infecting, chaingunning, fast running, sg building goodness of TFC!
Does high-def even affect TFC?
-
Doubt it (though never tried it)... the high definition pack basically replaces all the player/enemy/scientist and weapons models in the game with mdoels of a higher detail level... it's a good effect and adds a bit to the game (since without it the old models look pretty basic and dated now).

Blue Shift is good, I've heard, except incredibly short. :o

Hmm, anyone though of making an FS2 mod for Half-life with world craft?

Yes, but it went nowhere, unfortunately. And I'll still get my brother to make a System Shock 2 level that's Freespace 2 themed... can't say much though, or it'd ruin the surprise. ;)

TFC got its own updated models in a recent patch.
The HL engine is really incredibly flexible. Almost 4 years old and it can still crank textures and polys with the best of them (perhaps even better, since it's a simpler renderer).
