Okay, so I go to Buoy 1, fight off the Shivans, then go to Buoy 2... and nothing. It's still in purple like I haven't reached it yet.
So I restarted. Go to Buoy 1. Now, no Shivans, and no second buoy.
What do I have to do? And... should I have posted this in the Support folder? Sorry...

From Buoy 1, fly directly towards Buoy 2 (take out the Shivans when they appear but try to keep your direction). When you reach Buoy 2, fly past it a bit. A new blinking dot should appear somewhere ahead, not directly in the front but somewhere ahead. That is Buoy 3. Fly to it and past it. Rince and repeat until you find Snipes.

What do I do if the second buoy doesn't appear at all on the radar? It currently doesn't seem to be registering that I've reached Buoy 1.

There's a little cheat that if you fly in a straight direction from your original starting point without changing direction eventually you'll find Snipes in the Argo IIRC.

Make sure you're not using the 3D radar for this mission, and check that your radar range is set to infinite (unless a smaller range might help ignore distant buoys...hmm.)

Got it, thanks. Finished the campaign, actually - now I have the crapton of mods that came with FreeSpace Open to play. ;)

Plenty of good ones out there to choose from. I'd recommend Derelict, Awakenings, Cardinal Spear, and Blue Planet (currently playing through it myself) off the top of my head. Just remember you can always you voice synthesis if a mod isn't voice acted. It ain't perfect but it works. That's what I've been doing with Blue Planet. I'll probably play through it again when they finish the voice acting. Wait till you try the mission Forced Entry. Now that really gets the adrenaline going :D

Personally I think that voice synthesis urinates on the atmosphere and I'd much rather just read everything even if it means hitting F4 occasionally. But, a matter of opinion.

The problem with voice synthesis is that the voices take forever to catch up. Give it one three-liner, and that's it.
There's also the slightly annoying problem of female pilots sounding like Microsoft Sam... :drevil:

I haven't had that problem unless I'm just not noticing it. I really only use it for when I'm actually in combat. The mission briefing and everything else I just read. What I do hate about voice synthesis is that it pronounces everything including periods.
For reference: I'm using the 3.6.10 RC2 Build along with the 3.6.10 mediavps so everything is current.
