Hello, i downloaded and tried TBP for the first time today but i have a couple or so problems ingame. I have the dvd version from moddb (with missions).
1.)I could install and start the game alright but when i started the training (the one with the Achen) it got strange. After i completed the first two or three goals all further goals where shown incorrectly on the left side of the screen. some where standart-objectives from the original FS2 (like destroy virgo, destroy taurus) and some messed-up sentences that didn't make any sence at all. Furthermore where those messages that told you which keys to press (the ones in the middle of the screen that had no voice) from fs2 missions. One even told me to scan the Iceni instead of showing how to strafe up and down and i had to search through the options-menu to find out for the right key to get past that point. On top of that i couldn't get past the point where you have to order alpha 1 into formation with you because the game either never marked that off or didn't give me the next one (don't know which one because i can't read a single of my objectoves at that point).
I'm not sure if it has to do with that but I'm from germany and those wrong text-parts as well as the tips on start are (from what i remember all) in german.
2.)The second problem is that some of the numbers showing speed and distance are missing. Mostly it is the most left digit that is missing. When i use afterburner to fly more then 100 it only what is over 100, like 10 instead of 110. The same goes for distances. I never really know if the distance to a target is 400 or 5400 for example. Sometimes it is a number in the middle (as well) but almost always at least the most left one.
I tested this one on different campaigns as well but it remains and takes a good deal of fun out of the game.
I have vista 64, a nvidia geforce gt120 with 1024 mb and the newest drivers (from a week or so ago i believe). In the launcher i use all the standard options. If someone has an idea that would be great.

Hmm.
- Download FSO 3.6.10 RC2 (link in my signature).
- Place the .exe files to your TBP folder.
- Use the TBP Launcher to select fs2_open_3_6_10_RC2_debug.exe as the used build.
- Try to run the game at least until you get to the Main hall. There are probably tons of warnings but keep OK-ing them. Once in the Main hall, quit.
- There should now be a file called fs2_open.log in your \TheBabylonProject\data\ folder. Post its contents (or the file itself) here.

maybe i misunderstand but..
have you installed TBP to its own folder , not your Fs2 folder?
Tbp is a standalone and requires no Fs2 files.
if not use the DVD to reinstall to a folder say C:/games/TBP

Ok, did that. Since i don't have any accounts at those file-hosting sites i have to post it here. I had araound 7 or 8 errors concerning a file whose name was something with ships asking about using the debugger or something but i said no every time (yes crashed the game). Thanks for the fast reply.

(guh, removed mistake)
Each individual mod/campaign should be placed in an 'Achen Schooling Flight' folder within the TBP directory, then selected as a Mod with the launcher.

that is perfectly normal for TBP. Those files are present, but largely empty.
However, I can see this:

Could that cause these problems?

It is in a different folder. TPB is in "C:\The Babylon Project" and my original Freespace 2 with its own version of FSOpen (3.6.10) is in "C:\Games\FreeSpace2".
p.s.: i never had problems like that whith that one
p.p.s.: forgot it before, but i tried deinstalling it before my computers settings to United States and installing new. It all was the same (even the german language ingame)

edit: i used the setup on a completely clean folder. What i have shouldn't be different from everyone else, right?
Nobody else modifies or cleans up anything, right?

It will certainly not make matters worse. But IIRC, that's more or less what a TBP install looks like, fresh from the DVD. Most of the TBP campaigns so far are simple campaign releases that do not alter the tables, so they shouldn't cause problems the way they are installed now.
noname z: could you tell us if there is anything in C:\The Babylon Project\data\missions, C:\The Babylon Project\data\tables?

missions has 4 files: Backup.001;Backup.002;TBP_3_4_Call_of_the_Siren.fs2;TBP_nightmare.fs2
tables has 2 files: additional-shp.tbm;earthland-shp.rar

Those should be in the main folder as they are installed there by the DVD. Additional campaigns/missions go in their own folders.

Those files are correct so that's not the problem.
Did you have a German version of FS2 installed at some point? TBP and FS2 share some of the same registry settings.

Yes, i still have the german version of fs2 installed. Do you know how/if i can change the language for the game?
I looked through the registry earlier but nothing really catched my eye. But maybe i just missed it or simply didn't recognised it.

You should have one called Language. By default this will be English but depending on your tables French, German and Polish are also possible.

That seems to have done it. I found language in the registry. I used the search-funktion with"babylon" instead of "freespace" before. Everything is in english and correctly shown now. Even the strange glitch witch the missing numbers seems to be gone.

edit: just got past that point where i had to order alpha 1 into formation. It worked now as well. Seems like the game somehow didn't recognise the command when it was given in german.
