I'm feeling good because I just bought an original edition of Star Wars TIE Fighter. With the little discs and stuff, haha. I own the collector's edition that runs on WinXP just fine but there's something about owning the original box, instructions, all that jazz that just takes me back. I remember when I was a kid in the 90s I'd go to the PC game store and just gaze longingly at TIE Fighter, X-Wing, the Wing Commanders because back then there was no way my computer was able to run them.
So in the past few years I've also bought up Wing Commander 1 - 4 and am working my way around. I never actually PLAY the editions I buy. I have all those games in other formats that run better on modern operating systems but I just like owning them.
Am I some weirdo? Am I alone in this? Anyone else collect old space sims? Or any old games 'just to have them'?

I think I'm the weirder one, because I'm jealous :(
-
well I own all the mentioned games. But I also play them.
-
Oh I play them too but I have digital copies on my computer of Wing Commander that I acquired waaaaaaaaaaaay back (legally!) and I have X-Wing and TIE Fighter on CD also. But I like just owning them also in their original boxes and formats and such. It just takes me back.
Oh and Davros that's the most amazing thing i've ever seen. EVER.

Well the person I know that has the most space sims, would be RazorsKiss.
He's got a list on his site at razorskiss.net
I've got the whole xwing/tie fighter/expansion series. Tachyon, and FS2 GOTY edition.
Descent and some others I don't or haven't played in many years.
-
Oh I have StarLancer too. It's fun. It's not one of the greats but it's a good time.
How do you like Tachyon?
-
I'm the co-leader on the FringeSpace / FS2 conversion mod.
I've trained about 230 players in my time.
I played it in 2000 briefly and came back in mid 2006. Played since.
I edited, combined and produced a 3 part mod pack which
also restored multiplayer games after the official servers were broken.
That took 4 months to put together.
I organized and held a tournament to decided our alpha testers, in which I
contacted around 120 people and took 2 months to setup.
My partner has played Tachyon since it was beta in '99
I'm probably considered one of the top 5 mod pilots left.
I think that about says it. :D

That's quite the resume...

@Javito
Im thinking of building a shrine so that gamers can make a pilgrimage to The Sacred Terrabyte and worship the Gaming Gods :D

There's also Starshatter: The Gathering Storm. www.starshatter.com

I can't find it, where the hell is it? I want to compare the list with mine.
Starshatter isn't too bad actually. But since there is no real story and I like games because of their potential as a narrative medium, well

Did you say you like space sims with a story
