Alright, so we know that the Knossos portal is an extremely incredible device, but it just sits there. What if we designed a ship with a Knossos embedded in its structure? We would probably need a few reactors to power the monstrosity and it would probably end a very big ship. We could possibly shrink down the portal if this is a main concern. As for the advantages of having a portal on the ship...I'm kind of lost. I think the ship could be used to launch ambushes or lay siege to a star system but these ideas seem to be very obvious and not very special. Can anyone give me some ideas on what advantages or disadvantages of this Knossos ship should be?

The thing is, the Knossos is not a Subspace field generator, it is a stabiliser, there has to be the potential of a Subspace corridor there, the Knossos merely stabilises it enough for ships to use it, so having a mobile one wouldn't really be useful, since it would still have to park on top of an unstable node in order to be effective.

Inferno already made Knossos ships ,check out GTSD Odin and GTCV Neptune from INFR1.
In my opinion attaching Knossos portal to ship can be a good idea ,you can create an excellent ambush or exploration ship with "gateless jumpdrive" which can be used to explore new starsystems ,evacuate civilians after collapsing the node leading to shivan system or lay ambushes in most unexpected places.
Of course it needs unstable jump node to be able to travell ,but given there are millions of nodes creting and collapsing in nanosecond you may be able to catch with one of such.

I recall speculation about the Knossos being able to create new nodes in FS2. But it was speculation, no hard facts to support the claim. And even if it could, I have this feeling that it would take time and therefore wouldn't be suitable for any surprise purposes.

Personally, I think that's pushing the science a wee bit, the node has to be at least partially stable for the Knossos to lock onto it, that's why the Sath's superior Subspace tech was able to use it even after the Knossos had been destroyed. And those nodes are non-targettable, they lead to one location only, and no-one knows where that is until someone goes through and looks.
Of course, that doesn't mean that Inferno shouldn't use it, if it works for the plotline, well, no-one's going to mind, but personally I think something more along the lines of the Explorer class from Babylon 5 would be more useful, it arrives at an unstable node, builds a Knossos on it, and then moves on.
@Lobo, I seem to recall that it was more along the lines that if a Knossos stabilises an unstable node for a long period of time, that node will remain stable without the Knossos' help, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the insight guys. I've been wracking my brain over this ship idea for a while and I could not figure to make it work. It would violate too many rules established in the game. But, the idea just seemed so awesome that I hoped it would work. Perhaps it would work better as an idea for some other game.

Well, my general rule on stuff in Freespace is 'if it works for you, use it'. No-one is going to mind as long as they enjoy using it.

Actually, the node had stabilized by the time the Knossos was destroyed. Even the GTVA used it after that point.
