Title: campaigns
Post by: Skywalker on May 23, 2009, 08:44:12 am
Hello.

I have a little problem with the campaigns order.
I finished the Raider Wars, in the end i received a message that next campaign is the EA Civil war.
There is no campaign with such name. Just several Clark's elite forces campaigns.
Is there any list of campaigns sorted by a plot time?

PS
Sorry for my bad english

The Fortune Hunters campaign(s), for example.

You sure???
Looks like it's pirate campaign.

The problem is that the EA Civil War campaign suffers from severe existence failure. So, unfortunately, there is no direct continuation of the Raider Wars campaign, and you'll have to play other campaigns, until and unless EACW gets picked up again.

The problem is that the EA Civil War campaign suffers from severe existence failure.

the campaign is still in the works, Skullar is working on it. Problem is, Skullar's presence here is very infrequent and nobody has an idea when it will be finished.
I could be done tomorrow or never.

If you want a plot time list, the problem is that most campaigns never ever reference each other or have anything to do with others. The exception here is my stuff, since I am doing that on purpose.
Campaigns that take place during the Shadow War are Dark Children and Fortune Hunters, especially the later.
Unfortunately, that one still lacks voice-acting. There are of course the B5 Starfury Pilot Missions too but those are single missions of varying quality and usually brutal difficulty. (My stuff is hard? Try out those!)

Shadows do appear in other campaigns as well.

Worth playing is of course everything BUT I recommend Orph's campaigns in particular, for example Drums of War.

Yeah, been absent for a while, but I have yet again picked up EA CIVIL WAR stuff.
Problem is.... missing voiceactors.

I have decided to ignore the matter for now and do some more fredding..... It is extremely hard to get people do voiceacting, and I can only be online once a week or so.

Too few to supervise voiceacting gathering.

However... missions 1 to 13 are in the making and have nice raw versions already, speeding up the civil war campaigns means to do VOICEACTING !!!!!

This isn't a campaign, it's a collection of single missions, that can be accessed with the mission simulator.

I would suggest playing Fortune Hunters next. That whole pirate thing put me of a bit at first as well because i pretty much always play as "the good guys" but those campaigns where awsome. I really loved the characters. They just grow on you. Story-driven and athmospheric mods like that are, at least for me, the best. You play as a group of pirates with high morale standards. Later even that changes and you become something much more.
But i don't want to spoil that for you so i will stop now.

The only problem i had was that the second campaign always crashed when i wanted to start it. I had to download a different version of it because the one from the dvd didn't work for me. (The one in this topic: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,52151.0.html  It has a slightly older date i think.)

After that it all worked (as long as you remember to use the inferno for 2260).

hmmmm...
Pirates with high moral standarts...
I am afraid i can't play that campaign :(.
I have a little problem with games.  I always try to behave in the game as if it is a real world.
In original FS2 campaign it was a really hard for me to play the spy missions in NTF space (when i was forced to fire on vasudans, and later, when we began to shoot in the backs of NTF pilots). If we need to fight only with other pirates it would be aceptible for me... But to fight with the police forces...

Title: Re: campaigns
Post by: Stormcrow on May 28, 2009, 07:16:14 pm
Ah, well, the Hunters are rather "good" pirates. I'm also all for playing as I'd behave in RL, more or less (discounting Dark Children...) and have never shot down a Vasudan in the FS2-mission you mentioned.
However, the Hunters are nothing like the vile raiders in Raider Wars - they always allow the crews to stand down and hand ove their cargo peacefully, they don't kill innocents, and they fought for the Narn in their war with the Centauri without payment, just because it seemed the right thing to do (as a certain intervention in the early stages of the Civil War).

Anyway, to conclude my rant: The Hunters are more like Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly than Blackbeard. And I have come to like them a lot, not an easy thing in a space sim.

But i have a problem with "Point of no return".

Finally...
All 3 friendly ships escaped.
The usual blah-blah-blah about "need to run". End of the mission.
Debrefing.
blah-blah-blah  about hope Hage could bring more forces, plans about bying new ship. Horryfying about civil war...
Trying to go to next mission...
"You have failed this mission and cannot accept..."

SWEET!!!
Installed Zatras.
Chose it as mod.
Launch the mission.
Won.
Finaaly was abled to move to the next mission.

Why are you running Zathras with the 3.6.9 build? I'm pretty sure that's just asking for trouble since Zathras was designed to run with 3.6.10 builds.

Actually it should work with 3.6.9 as well.  I can't think of anything in there that would break 3.6.9.  I don't think this theory has ever been fully tested though.

That said even if Zathras were the cause I wouldn't know why as there are no changes to that ship class.  It does seem like some sort of corrupted install since no one else has reported this behavior especially if it's happening with the 3.6.9 inferno build.

Just tested that mission and it works on my end.

Hi Skywalker,

When you use the INF build, you should create a NEW PILOT for each campaign, and more importantly DON'T use PILOTs created in other builds.
Hope this helps.

I feel a Star Wars young Skywalker rant but I'll forgo it and just say practice.  It's not too hard.  Difficult yes.  But if things weren't difficult they wouldn't be worth playing.  Might as well watch it as a movie and not play if you just want to get past things easily.
Title: Re: campaigns

well...
actually...
Difficult because of good tactics of the enemy, or better equipment, or complex task...

And difficult because of infinite enemy's...

As the saying in Odesa - "it  is two big differences"

Had 21 kills last time, but i failed.

And by the way.

I received a report of the Enfylli's destruction, and, then ,  Niset's speech about superiority of minbari's neutron cannons...

A repetition of Brakiri's day of dead?

Title: Re: campaigns
Post by: Skywalker on May 31, 2009, 05:08:17 pm
True.
But so far i tried everything i could think of.
Destroing fighters, attacked Enfilly that moment.
Destroying the Drakh transport.
Once i destroyed 7 fighters from the first wave (the ones from the base) before they reach Enfilly. Just match my speed with them, turned on gliding and began target practice - they didn't even notice me, just ignored untill we reach the Enfilly.
Tried to lure fighters out of their wey or intercept before they reach Enfilly - mostly they ignored me. just 2 of them tried to intercept me - enough for me to divert my attention to them because i was alone.

Too bed that predictive targeting system can't work properly with beam weapons - allied fighters miss to much (I saw my wingmate firing at point in front of shadow fighter while he had a clear shot.

PS is there any way to know who is firing my target (ex - want to know who of enemy fighters is firing at Enfilly and destroy them)

Ooo thank you very much...
I didn't notice it and this is detail nearly impossible to notice.
Now, when i have such magnificent piece of universal enlightement i can esily became invincible, powerfull, idiot-annoying spider-little spider-bug-spider-badguy-proof. But i still need a little more to defend the Enfilly. perhaps 3 wings of Vorlon Fighters would be enough... Or Hercules with a quiver of his divine self-guided arrows - they are hard poisoned with a saliva of the Cerberus, so it must be perfect against Vorlon and Shadow ships... Maybe I need the absence of "Harvester" and presence of another wing of minbary fighter, or at leasT a PRESENCE OF ALL THAT MINBARY PILOTS, MENTIONED IN BREEFINGS, WHICH TOOK ALL OTHER FIGHTERS FROM THE ENFILLI TO ACCOMPANY US IN THIS MISSION...
Or, but it's just unrelizible dreams, a bit more applied minbary fighter designer and a less cheating enemy.

*With demonic psychopatic voice*
"YESS ITSS A GAME... MY GAME... "

Well joking aside. It is really very hard and cheating mission - just like the one before it...
And, about briefing.
There is a mention about player's request to pilot minbary fighter. But Niset answered, that she would prefer to have her own pilots there. Almost every fighters were ocupy,  only 3 left.
Minbary "Sharlin" class Battlecruiser can cary 15 "Nial" Fighters.
There are only 3 of us there.
"Harvester" can't cary "Nial" fighters. So what the hell is she doing there???? Playing a sitting duck? She is just a burden there.
And where the hell are other 12 fighers???
And, if "Harvester" caried us all that time, it's mean that hangers of Enfilly were full, so we must be accompanied by 15 fighters. Or, if Hangers are damaged - the Enfilly must be under repairs or protecting any other place (Babylon 5 for ex) while having brief repairs. Nials fighters have sufficient firepower, so its stupidly not to bring as much as it possible into battle. Especialy in SUCH potentially important mission.

Hey Skystalker, do you play the game with mouse or joystick? I experienced that it's harder for me to target other fighters with my joystick, for that I'm far better with the mouse. On the other hand it's realy a pain in the ass to turn your ship with the mouse.

What do the others use?

I only use the mouse to fire and accelerate. Same for the joystick but because there are more buttons on the joystick I take advantage of them for targeting or banking ....

The best way to turn your ship is with the keyboard i think ...

everybody has a different favorite.

For example, I am flying full keyboard and consider myself to be pretty good. FUBAR is flying mouse as far as I know and kicks every ass in firing range. Legendary DW Hunter was a Joystick pilot if I remember correctly.

As far as I know, I belong to the minority, most are mouse players.

I know it is a stupid question but when I move the joystick up then the ship turns down and when I move down it turns up ? Same problem for the mouse.
That's why I only use the keyboard for turning : I can reverse the turn up/turn down button.

Ah ok I didn't notice the invert button. Thanks.

I guess I'll ask here, rather than start a new thread or necro the old one; the Earth-Minbari War was never released, correct?

Nope.  I don't know if work was even really begun past the demo.

I might tweak the mission again a bit, considering the complains.
Interesting, since I never got complains about said mission before and remember that Hunters is a year old by now. Originally, many flamed me because of Mission 6 but never Mission 12.
But seriously, we made it through 20 FH missions at this point. I admit that a Nial is new for the player BUT this is the big final battle mission of FH2260 (the next is the epilogue). The player doesn't feel bad-ass with there wouldn't be real resistance.

I liked flying Minbari fighter in mission 12 (I always liked beams more than cannons ,if only the TBP AI Profile was changed to include them to kills) ,entire mission 12 was fun for me. I found constant flying Aurora a bit boring ,MF Nial is one of my favourite flyable ships in TBP ,second only to BI Halik (consider doing something with this one ,it's very underused) and SH Heavy Assault (which I found a bit overpowered).
Fortune Hunters was one of my favourite campaigns at all and I had no trouble with it. (though it was hard)

Well your in luck 2 ways.  Zathras contains an alternate ai-profile that with the flag that counts beam damage toward kills.  Also Kara created a fix that will be in 3.6.11 so all player damage counts no matter what weapon type.

I think I discovered when playing that that every time I fired my weapons the leader's waypoint path reset. Were you firing your weapons at all? If so, resist the urge until you discover the abandoned ship.

And how dare the author of this campaign, the God of this word, the Creator, the Shaper, the I-don't-know-what-to-say-more-about-him allowed such bugs, this demons of the Universe, this parasites of the Game, this vultures of the pleasure to exist in this mission????
His actions has violated the coder-sapience masterpiece creation principles.
Following this unprecedented actions i executed his representative in that world. I will do it again and again, until his master hear my vote of protest.
Or until I'll find a way to pass this bug :)

If my memory serve me well there is no bug in this mission  :D.
Pay attention to what your superior said and don't do anything else without his direct order.
In your case, don't open fire when yr not allowed and follow your leader, avoid asteroids until you discover the lost ship i think

to win the mission, you need to stay in formation with your wingleader.
Every time you are to far away from him, the timer gets a nasty reset.

So, you never ever find the lost ship if you start flying around on your own.
It's brilliant work by Orph !

Don't do anything, but follow the wing leader. I started shooting asteroids for kicks and did it for a while before I noticed that doing it reset the timer.

That damn mission in fortune hunters 2 campaign - protect Enfilly and blow out shadow base...
Actually, i think that 70 shadow fighters is a little too many...

PS The mission after...
Survive the shadow's ambush.

Is it the last mission in this campaign?
