As I played FS2 yesterday, I get an idea.

What about a campaign where you stay at the installation or a ship and get the control of an turret?
So I've tried to make a mission like this on FRED, but I don't have the knowledge to make that happen.

So I have this question:
1.: How do I make a turret on a ship or a station playable?
Hope you can help me.

Not possible, as far as I know.

You could maybe hack together a solution...

Define a ship in ships.tbl with just the turret weapon and no engines at all. It should also probably have huge mass/density so it doesn't ever get moved around. Give the ship a tiny or nonexistent model.

It wouldn't be a "real" turret, but it's one way I can think of to fake it.

You can try to script turret control ,Nuke did something like it.
I don't know where I got it ,but I have his cocpit demo with turret control amongst other numerous features.
It was made for old build ,but maybe it will work on newer one.

I don't know where I got it ,but I have his cocpit demo with turret control amongst other numerous features.
It was made for old build ,but maybe it will work on newer one.

actually i updated the cockpit demo to work with newer builds. im not sure where i put it either.

Hm, why not just make a ship model that is the moving par of the turret, table it so that it can turn but not move, give it a huge mass value, and stick it on the installation wherever you want. Put it in such a way that if you turn too far one way, you end up shooting the installation, but not through it.

Would it be possible to make Freespace look like that? I mean without the ocean and the earth, but if you had the same equipment as in the game, just with the style of Freespace!

You're looking for Tail Gunner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tail_Gunner) with fancy textures etc. ;)
