Title: Texture replacement with -glow and -shine maps
Post by: FUBAR-BDHR on May 29, 2009, 02:29:14 pm
Say you have a model with texture abc with corresponding glow and shine maps abc-glow and abc-shine.  If you use texture replacement to change abc to xyz will abc-glow and abc-shine still be used.  Basically this is for nameplates that all have the same glow and/or shine map.  Need to know if I need to copy abc-glow and abc-shine to xyz-glow and xyz-shine for each nameplate or if it will use the original if it's not replaced.

I'm pretty sure this was the big issue Skullar complained about many times. No idea how it was resolved.

Well -glow and -shine options show up in FRED and typing them in seems to work (except for the save bug I reported)

Not quite sure if this could be relevant to you but I used this two options of Fred a couple of weeks back and it seemed to work back then.

I tried it with the orion nameplates and indeed inserting the shine map did make a difference in the overall result, though it was a lame looking nameplate IIRC, but nevermind that.. it was probably because I did something wrong.

This abc-stuff is making me dizzy, I had to read it 3 times to understand.....

Sooo.....

EACW is using texture replacement heavily, and the 3.6.10 builds solved the problem with glowmaps on texture replacement.

1. When you use texture replacement in fred, the textures are accessible via a scrolldown menu. ( at least with the provided 3.6.10 FRED2 I use )

2. You have to replace abc with xyz, abc-glow with xyz-glow and so on...  Manually

If remember correctly, IF you use texture replacement , you have to state the replacements for glow and shine as well, or NONE will be used.

I volunteer for doing glowmaps on request, and I will prepare a template set, but I can only provide templates for PAINT SHOP PRO, thats what I am working with.  However, my PSP 7 trial version is fully functioning since time began.

OK that none will be used part is what I was wondering about.  I don't think there is a need to make extra glow and shine maps if the nameplates just a master.  Just putting some instructions in that you need to replace abc-shine with xyz_template-shine for all nameplates would be good enough.

I made easy-to-use nameplate templates for

- Omega      ( normal map, glowmap and shinemap )
- Omega-X   ( normal map, glowmap  -  Omega X uses no shinemaps )
- Poseidon   ( normal map, glowmap and shinemap )

and sent them to fubar-bhm so he can publish them somehow.

Yeah, thanks , I know I am good.
