I can see the titles of some threads in internal boards through the "latest post" thing.
As it stands, it's kind of a teaser...
-
Are you joking or something?
The only internal boards I see are the ones I should have access to.
-
I can see the title of the latest active thread on some internals I definitely do not have access to.
This problem's been around for a while.
-
That's a different thing I noticed a while ago. There even is a thread about the issue.
Snail's post suggests that he somewhat managed to browse internal forums he doesn't have access to (which is weird).
-
Only the titles, of course.
-
Snail, please force refresh your browser window. Are recent topic titles from private boards you have no access to still visible to you?
If yes, go to your profile's Look and Layout Preferences, the first setting allows you to select forum theme (which has been enabled temporarily for testing purposes). Select SMF Default Theme. Does the problem still occur (please force refresh again)
This is going to annoy a boatload of people me included, but I had to reset theme settings for this. Please look at Look and Layout Preferences and set your preferences again if you had changed them. This includes everyone by the way.
Also, moving this to Site Support.
-
I've tried everything, but none of these steps fixed the issue. I can still see the internal topics.
-
No difference, I can still see internal board topics.
-
Please see if this occurs on SMF2
http://staff.hard-light.net/common/smf2beta/
-
Yeah, it still appears there as well.
-
:wtf:
-
Nope, it's gone for me now.
-
Nope, it's gone for me now.
On SMF 1.1. or 2.0?
-
:wtf:
Nope, I can definitely see internal thread titles on at least one board.
-
Now that I think of it, I see the title of a thread in the new subforum for Global Moderators. It's named "Spambots".
-
Yeah, that's an example.
-
Now that I think of it, I see the title of a thread in the new subforum for Global Moderators. It's named "Spambots".
Can you see the forum itself?
-
Well, I can't. I can only view things from the "Last Post by... in thread..." (on the forum index)
-
Can you see the forum itself?
Nope.
Snail's post at the beginning of this thread gives the impression that it's actually possible to browse internal boards. As he clarified later, he (we) can only see titles.
-
Yeah, I just wanted to know if he saw the board itself appearing as a child board, not whether he could actually then click on that board and see the threads.
-
No, I can't see the child boards. just the latest posts thingie
-
Nope, it's gone for me now.
On SMF 1.1. or 2.0?
SMF 2.0 (http://staff.hard-light.net/common/smf2beta/)
I can't see the internal topic in "The Scroll of Atankharzim" there anymore.
-
That's because all recent posts are from over a year ago.
-
DaBrain said he could see topics in recent posts even when he was not logged in (browsing as guest) and in another browser too. Is this the same for you, Snail?
-
Yes, I can see these some of these things even when logged out.
-
That just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
-
It's worth noting that our permissions settings have some holes in them. Even though SMF2 comes with a much better & more robust system, if you merely imported the permissions from here, it's going to have the same problems. :p
When we officially transition to SMF2 (whenever that may be) I'd like to rebuild the permissions from scratch, using SMF2's handy dandy membergroup template strategy. And then have two or three admins audit it before we go live, to prevent problems like an0n getting access to the staff forum. :D
-
This is not a permissions problem as indicated by Snail and DaBrain having the problem as guests too.
-
Guests have permission settings.
-
If the culprit is guest permissions, then all guests would be able to see topics from private boards. But that isn't the case.
-
Wasn't it already determined that this had something to do with the meddling Goober did for Phoenix?
-
1) No.
2) Even if it had, the code for Phoenix was disabled now that Phoenix has (mostly) run its course.
-
The Phoenix code was the thing that was messing up the "new posts" function for the FSPort board I believe.
-
That was a different set of problems, and applied only to boards that were parents of that forum.
