Is it my imagination or have some people's post counts totally exploded while others have remained the same? I could have sworn mobius did not have 10,000+ posts just a couple of days ago.
-
I always remember him having 10,000, as far as I remember (which is not long in the lifespan of this forum).
-
A couple of days ago I had pretty much the same postcount...
Oh, by the way, the title of this thread is... familiar...
-
Right. Well I've been out of touch with the forums recently, totally lost track. My bad......
-
All I know is it's been eight years, and mine is still under 300. Oh, shi-.
-
Mobius's postcount was set to 0 at one point. Someone probably did a post recalculation.
-
Skippy set my postcount back to the real value.
-
post counts are serious business. apparently someone deleted 8,000 of mine a while ago.

No, they are still there. They decided general discussion posts wouldn't count towards it.
-
I never really got the rationale behind that one.
-
GD is unrelated to FS, maybe, and this is the largest FreeSpace site on the internets? Might that have anything to do with it? ;)
-
Post counts are post counts. I don't see how posts in general discussion aren't posts by some arbitrary designation..
-
If GD posts counted, I would look like I contribute something to the forum.

Yeah, they're unrelated to Freespace, but this site isn't dedicated entirely to Freespace, and as far as I know, it never was. The tagline is "Bringing Modders together", a general discussion forum helps to do that.

On one hand, GD has some of the longer and more insightful posts.
On the other hand, it contains most of the utter garbage.
The two cancel out.
-
Post counts are e-penii, and while most of us agree that they really don't matter, every now and then some n00bs start comparing theirs and therefore start posting a lot of nonsense to increase it.
Since GD is the place where one can post the most wihtout being called a spammer, its posts were excluded from the post count to discourage that behavior. It was only partially successful, since some people have since then started to post mostly irrelevant blabber in virtually every other subforum.
Thus endeth the story.

I thought that was the reason... I read something similar a few months ago.

my post count sucks for the time I have been here.
what are you guys complaining about?
:P
-
are we doing this again? initiate lockage!
the first rule of post counts is you do not talk about post counts.
the second rule about postcounts is you do not talk about post counts.
third rule, make your posts look useful
fourth rule, reply to every comment, reference, or flame to your post
fifth and final rule, if i catch you doing this, i will nuke you.
