Title: Crysis 2 anounced, teaser released
Post by: Triple Ace on June 07, 2009, 12:22:53 am
I am excited to hear that Crysis 2 has been officially anounced, but the trailer was disapointing. I would not even call it a teaser, at least a teaser gives you something. There is almost nothing here. The impression I got from watching this is that there might be the possibility of an urban enviroment somewhere in the game. Seeing that that it will NOT be PC exclusive, my biggest fear for this is that it will possibly be dumbed down for the consoles and inferior to Crysis 1 and Warhead.

You know what this means, right?

They're gonna be forced to optimize it! \o/

Of course, if Germany goes through with the ban on violent video games that's on the table, Crytek is gonna have to find a new location.

Germany is very strict in that regard (violence. Sex isn't a problem, unlike the USA for example) any many german gamers (like me! :D ) buy their games from Switzerland to get around it.
Switzerland will get stricter laws soon too, that's the real ****.

If it does feature urban settings I'll be interested to see that. So far Crysis and Far Cry 2 have been largely based on tropical islands / jungle / snow scapes - all open natural vegetation.

Heck, if they're bringing Crysis and presumably the aliens from the first game into a city environment, I'm expecting something like Cloverfield in terms of combat - except you can actually damage the aggressor.

If this is supposed to run on current generation consoles, it's going to look worse than the first Crysis. :p

A city environment would be a good addition if they can keep the levels open ended like the first half of Crysis.

Crysis has it's fair shair of technical problems but the expansion, Crysis Warhead pretty much fixed them all.
It's runs a hell of a lot better, looks better, doesn't crash. A 600 Doller PC can run it at Medium all the way through and it looks great.

And when your PC is more badass, well  ;)

You must have played the games in the wrong order. :p Warhead has a much lower vegetation draw distance, stutters frequently because it loads content dynamically (the train level is the worst example of this), and it's the only one that I got CTDs on (the last level only, but it happened a couple of times there). It looks worse and runs worse.

The dynamic-load stuttering on the train level was incredibly, incredibly annoying.

One thing that bothered me about Crysis was how plastic the enemies were. The AI was unimpressive, but worse, they had only a few animations that didn't appear at all natural.

Could've learned a thing or two from Halo or FEAR in that respect!

Is it actually true, that you cant kill people in computer games in Germany?
That the blood has to be green, or the people you are shooting have to be robots or something?
Or is that all complete bull****

Not excactly, it depends on the game or to be more precise, the context.
Soldier of Fortune 2 for instance was castrated totally, the enemy soldiers have been replaced by androids ( who look like humans and have green/ yellow blood ( oil ).

Max Payne for instance was released full, then shortly after it was indexed and re-released as German version
because the reason Max Payne is killing people is not to defend someone, his motivation is vengeance.

In most cases the blood gets removed, most games where you have to kill people or innocents can be killed for fun gets castrated ( carmaggedon ) or indexed, so only adults can buy them.
Games where you can massaker or torture humans are on the index before release   as well as games that show Nazi symbols.

Sex or nudity isn't a big problem, also killing Aliens isn't a problem either, no matter how bloody it looks, you can splatter the guts of a Alien across the floor and paint the room with it's blood.

This will get changed sooner or later, which sucks.

Wait, you can kill aliens?

Are they allowed to kill you back?

Of course...as long youre videocharcter isn't bleeding and no bodyparts are flying around. :D
It seems we are heading towards games where you have to talk to agressive Aliens which came to destroy humanity for whatever reason, and tell 'em that it isn't nice to kill people and nuking entire citys, and we ( as race ) would really appriciate it if the would stop that, and that there are other ways to solve conflicts like sport events, chess championships and the like. Or something like that.

Imagine a game with the crytek engine and 80+hours of dialogue where you have to convince the alien race to solve the conflict with a poker/ chess/ game or diplomacy. Does this sound like fun?

It would surely be better than the multiplayer in Crysis.  :P

No, no it doesn't.  But it just seems kind of silly to me that you're not allowed to kill people unless it's in defense of someone, but getting killed is AOK.

I was surprised that Assassins Creed was freely available in every gameshop.
It's actually a game where you kill people for "base motives" as the law calls it here, 'cause every game that
glorifies violence or shows explicit violence is indexed/ banned and / or modified to show no blood.
Dunno if other recent games have been "defused" ( like Crysis, Farcry 2 a.s.o. ) 'cause i have the us versions of those games and since i play rarely FPS games i really don't care that much.

If there's a game that is interesting for me, i get the original version, mostly because the localized version sucks.

I had to buy the UK version of Citizen:Kabuto to work around the nudity patch in the US. In the UK version, the female model is designed topless, but in the US, it had to be censored with a bikini.

It's my way of saying "F*ck you, ESRB"
