Post by: Iguana on June 07, 2009, 11:57:28 pm
Ive install Freespace 2, then install "ShivanSPS's SCP Update Pack".
Ive reed a lot of forum information cos I have an ATI and I dont get the normal maps, but this is not the problem.
I start the "Freespace Port Media VPs" Mod and it runs well until the mission "the aftermath", when it crash after2 min.
In fact nothing happen... the ships are flying and then a transmition from HQ start and the game crash.

You have stuff in your FSPort directory that shouldn't be there.  Awakenings should be in it's own folder.  Not even sure what EODRedux is.  Try removing those 3 files and see what happens.

Basics: every mod must have its own subfolder under \freespace2\ .

Well I remove the 3 files... But It crash in the same moment...

I must say that I didnt create any folder or do anything apart from installing the "ShivanSPS's SCP Update Pack".

Thanks

One thing, the null vec warning will only occur in debug builds and you don't mention that you switched to debug in order to get us the log. If you didn't, run the build ending in r.exe rather than the one ending in d.exe.

If you ran the release build first you can disregard this post. :)

Well the files made it, but running a debug will nearly always give you errors on the side.

On a related note, you seem to be running a rather old build. Perchance you'd like to use 3.6.10 RC3 (link in my signature).

There (most often) is a valid reason why the debug build complains of user made data. Those warnings/errors are not there to be ignored but instead user should work to fix them (granted - fixing null vec issues without debugger is a 'tad' difficult but still).

Yeah, but that's the job of the campaign/mod dev and not the average Joe.

Exactly. My advice to Iguana is "Ignore the errors and just run release." My advice to a developer would be "Why the hell aren't you running your stuff though debug once in a while?"

Precisely how nervous ought we be about null MOI errors on ships?

Well being that it takes all of 20 seconds to fix them in PCS2 you should fix them.  Anyone that doesn't will get a cookie stapled to his back and directions to said cookie to the resident cookie monster.  Oh and that staple is barbed.

What exactly should I do if I'm a developer and encouncer null vec error?

Post your thoughts of Blue Planet over in the BP forum!

Play Silent Threat: Reborn, Transcend, and Derelict. They're all superb.
