Was curious if there was some sort of long range laser. And if there isn't would it be hard to make? I need to figure out how to make weapons anyways, so figured this would be a good start.

You can also look at the retail Maxim, which pretty much is a sniper cannon. Or yeah, the Phoenix cannon from PI works too.
For a "true" sniper cannon (slow firing rate, super high damage) you kind of need the ability to zoom in. A feature not present in the current engine (AFAIK).

Or look at Steve-O's Archer : long range, slow firing rate and high damage. But yeah, it sorely needs zoom.

The Archer is a nightmarishly effective anti-bomber weapon.

velocity multiplied by lifetime would be a start for you in the weapons table. then play with the fire wait and damage.

Ok, so you can have precision. But without being able to see what you're aiming at, you lack accuracy.
And precision without accuracy is fail.

That's what the reticle is for. Handy, eh? I agree on the zoom idea.

There seems to be all sorts of weird little issues with FOV. Another thing I noticed was that stupid glitch where the field narrows when you rotate the camera in a cutscene. Driving me batty, that is.

Yeah, I can aim fine with my mouse. I just can't see what I'm aiming at.

Amen, and anti-turret, it's a dream against most things.

Yes ,Archer is a good ( though I found it a bit overpowered ) example of sniper weapon ,but I think the Phalanx from PI is more balanced.

The other advantage the Archer has is that it's got an animated weapon model. I cried tears of joy when I first selected it and saw that thing unfolding.

The animated model isn't bound to Archer ,but to Wraith ,on which Archer is installed by default.
You may change the tables to install it anywhere you wish though.

Whats a good place to download the Archer? I don't see it on FSMods.

I could be wrong, but the first attempt or description of a "sniper weapon" was on the Jotun. IIRC.
Never got into it...

Look for Steve-O's fighter pack.
It's integrated onto the hull of the FTF Wraith.

Zoom effect? Use SEXPs. :)
You can use set-fov/reset-fov combined with key-reset-multiple to have a fully controlled zoom effect.
