Title: Requirements?
Post by: Darnok on June 12, 2009, 06:33:55 am

I am currently playing "The Babylon Project", and in search for other Mods i found Blue Planet on HLP

Can you tell me what I need to play Blue Planet?

I have the originals of Free Space 1 + 2 and the Total Conversion Mod "The Babylon Project".

Is Blue Planet also a TC?

(Sorry for my english -> Google Translator)

Hahah, Google Translator, don't worry, you're making sense.

No, Blue Planet isn't a TC, it's a mod, and as such, you'll need Freespace Open, have you heard of Turey's Installer? Either way: http://www.fsoinstaller.com/files/installer/FreeSpaceOpenInstaller.zip

That's the Freespace Open Installer, to play Blue Planet you'll need to install Freespace Open. You can either use that to install whichever components you wish (The .exe's recommended and mediavps if you want). However as far as I know, you should be able to just download the components you need from here: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,63492.0.html

Click Regular under Windows (if you're using Windows) and place it in your Freespace2 folder. Then download launcher 5.5d and select the .exe's you just downloaded using the browse tab at the top of the launcher. Then download Blue Planet and place it in your Freespace Folder and select it under the mod tab. (Details were a bit sketchy, feel free to ask for more info)

Blue Planet is no a TC. It is a mod for FreeSpace Open and therefore you will need to have FS2 and FSO installed.
In a nutshell, playing Blue Planet requires you to:
- install FS2
- set up FSO by getting a good build (which is FSO 3.6.10 RC3 at the moment) and Launcher 5.5d
- install the MediaVPs
- install Blue Planet (preferrably the 3.6.10 version).

If you follow the instructions behind the "Installing FSO" link in my signature, you should end up with a working FSO installation. Step 10 in it will also give general instructions for installing mods and they apply to Blue Planet as well.

Edit: Personally I dislike Turey's Installer, because you learn considerably less about FSO by using it compared to installing the necessary components yourself. But if you wish to use the Installer, go for it. Just keep in mind that the MediaVPs provided by the Installer are broken and you'll still need to install those manually.

Welcome to the HLPBB! :D

Where are you from, Darnok? There might be HLPers who live in your same country. Talking with them using your home language would be a very good idea. :)

Hey, the Google Translator isn't too bad. If Darnok hadn't wrote he used Google Translator, I would have assumed he is fluent in English.
And yes, follow Dilmah G or Jeff  Vader's walkthroughs. They pretty much sum it up.

By the way, you don't need the mediavps as such to play the original Blue Planet, although it is highly recommended. If you come across "Blue Planet 3.6.10", you will need them though however.

I think you got them reversed.  :p
The original BP will have graphical glitches without mediavps, the invisible Balor for example. The 3.6.10 BP doesn't need them, but there is a graphical glitch of the Sanctuary's textures in "Finding Sanctuary" without the mediavps.

Oh, so THAT'S why I couldn't see the Balor first time round :P

The first time playing BP was on my integrated chipset laptop which couldn't run mediavps. I thought that the invisible Balor weaponry was part of the plan amazingly enough.

Invisible primary weapons should also hint about something being wrong.

Hello,

I have the mod downloaded and installed,
as far as the mod runs without problems.

I encountered a problem in the mission which the GTC Duke with Alt + A is to capture.

I use the keyboard shortcut, but nothing happens. What am I doing wrong.

Installed are the German version of FS2 and your specified Media VP's and FSO 3.6.10RC3.....an so on....

By the way ... awesome mod .... looking forward on the rest of the mod...
