Guys:
I haven't downloaded or played The Freespace2 Open for over a year; I have the Saga Prologue & it seems to work PERFECTLY well...I don't even remember how to use the FS2open...is there any way to get BEL to work without using FSO? If not can somebody walk me thru it--AGAIN? FYI: My launcher version is 5.5.0.3
BTW Since I ONLY want to use WCsaga, would it hurt things to delete EVERYTHING & just start from scratch?
Thx

Just follow install instructions supplied with the BEL campaign. WC Saga uses FS Open as well, 3.6.9 in fact, whereas BEL requires 3.6.10.

You can use this: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,63492.40.html as 3.6.10 for BEL.
And most likely official 3.6.10 release as soon as it comes out.

Ah...Fuggedaboutit! I deleted EVERYTHING-FS, FSopen, Port, Saga, You name it-it's ALL gone.
I redownloaded Saga & it seems to work OK without FSopen to diddle with...so I guess I'll never play BEL for now;

Okay. There seems to be a misunderstanding here.
WCS Prologue shipped with version 3.6.9 of FSO. BEL, however, needs FSO version 3.6.10 to work correctly. In order to upgrade, you simply need to go here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,63492.40.html), download the 3.6.10 RC3 regular version and the Launcher 5.5d, and put them into your WCS directory. Then you have to use the new Launcher, select the RC3 build and BEL as a mod, and you're ready to go.

Well I don't know if it makes a diff but I discovered that I no longer have FS2 installed & can't find the disks anywhere...so if BEL needs a retail version of FS in order to play then this is all academic....and to tell the truth as an 'older gent' I really don't do so well with technology...but we'll see.
HOWEVER if I DON'T need FS2 I'll give it a shot...

Wing Commander Saga is a game. It relies on the FreeSpace Open game engine, which in turn is an improved, open source version of the original FreeSpace 2 game engine. WCS is an entire game, containing all the models, textures and other assets needed for running. You do not need FS2 in order to play WCS. You shouldn't even attempt to mix the two.
The point here was that BEL requires a newer version of the FSO engine; 3.6.9 just won't do. Behind the link posted by Dragon, you can find FSO 3.6.10 RC3. Using it does not require a full reinstallation or FS2. You just download the "regular" build for your operating system (presumably Windows), then extract the .exe files from the package and then place those .exe files to your WCS folder. After that, you'll just use the WCS Launcher, click on the "Browse" button at the top, select fs2_open_3_6_10_RC3.exe, apply the changes and run.

Unfortunately, your decision to delete Freespace 2 means you're going to need to pay six dollars if you ever want to play it again (assuming you can't find the disks.)
In the future, don't delete everything. There was a very easy way to do what you wanted to do.

Well in my defense(be it ever so humble) it looks like FS2 has been 'gone' for quite a while...what was deleted was that 3++ gigs of info 'stuff' that FSopen consists of;
Ah well...I shall peruse the nearest Frys & Best Buys & see if a copy exists in their bargain bin.

It's okay. You can always get it for $6 online at GoodOldGames.
