Title: I'm not sure if it works
Post by: ninelives1 on June 15, 2009, 03:20:26 pm
I've gotten on to play multiplayer but I'm not sure if it works because there are no games being hosted so I'm not sure if it will work if i can't join a game, so anyone host a game?

I'll try to host a game. Make sure that you have RC3 installed. :) http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,63492.0.html (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,63492.0.html)

There is an OS X build for RC3. Hope that works. I'll try to host, and you can join (if hosting works...)

I'm pretty darn sure that the OS X is for macs (don't have a mac, so I'm not 100% sure. Also, since I have a XP and don't know the mac interface, I'm not sure that these instructions will work.) Try the following.

1: Download from the "Regular" link instead of the "Inferno" link.
2: Put all the files into your FreeSpace folder and load up the game (do not load the debug one.)
3: Load up the game.

Hope this helps. :)

If this doesn't work, then you can put up a topic in the support section. Questions usually get resolved quickly there.

Don't ask for help on multiple threads for the same problem. It will actually take you longer to get a solution cause people will contradict each other and you'll end up with a mess.

Put all 4 files in your FS folder. You do not need to load the debug ones (they are used for tracking bugs, errors and such.) Load up the one that should say something like "fs_RC3" If you try to run the debug one, it will not work most likely. Try loading the FS one, and go from there. (Just to double check, do you have the retail version of FS2 installed?)

Sorry. I'll keep that in mind from now on.

"Don't load the debug one" means that when you're selecting a build with the Launcher, don't select fs2_open_3_6_10_RC3_debug.exe.

Ok thanks. I apologize for the multiple threads. :)
I think it works now. it comes up with a chat box in the middle a PXO box in the upper left corner and a "games" box in the bottom right. This is what it should look right? well anyway I'd love to have a game since i think i have it up now

ok i had it up working but when i opened up the launcher again and hit launch on rc3, it starts up but the screen goes black so i have to restart my computer. i tried deleting the freespace i had tho i dont remember where i got it (  i Know it's not retail) and  installing another from the scp site but all it only came with two files, no data folder or anything. this is what it looked like after i added the two RC3 files and the pxo.cfg file.

Do a search of the following files:

root_fs2.vp
smarty_fs2.vp
sparky_fs2.vp
sparky_hi_fs2.vp
stu_fs2.vp
tango1_fs2.vp
tango2_fs2.vp
tango3_fs2.vp
warble_fs2.vp

Also, if you tried deleting FreeSpace directory (bad and unnecessary move) check if those files happen to be in trash bin or whatever Macs have where "deleted" files go in.

If you do not find these files, you need to aquire FreeSpace2 and install it before you can play it with the FS2_Open and the enhanced graphics. Best way to do this legally would be to buy it from GoodOldGames at $5.99.

After you have located these files or aquired the retail game if you are missing it, ask for more instructions for configuring the game.

His files were in the trash. They have been restored.
