I'm having problems which are explained here:
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=63808.0
help would be appreciated

First, all the FSO executables (3.6.10 RC3 binaries and the Launcher) HAVE to be in the same directory as the rest of the FS data (all the .vp files). Make sure they are.
-
well the thing is I don't have those at all...
-
Get them from my signature, put them in your FS2 directory. Use the launcher to select the RC3 .EXE and then check any launcher options you want. Select the mediavps (advanced graphics) folder under the mod tab, click apply, and run.
-
Then you can't play FreeSpace. Sorry. FreeSpace 2 can be acquired at Good Old Games (http://www.gog.com/). Or you could try out the total conversions, like The Babylon Project or Wing Commander Saga, those work without needing the FS2 retail files.
-
ok im sorry this is stupid but which one from your signature
-
Do you, or do you not own FreeSpace 2?
-
i don't have the retail version but i got the scp one.
-
Do you have FreeSpace 2?
You need FreeSpace 2.
-
To clarify: You need a legally bought copy of FreeSpace 2 installed. Whether from the original CDs or via Good old games doesn't matter, but you NEED a full install of FS2.
-
um... well i never bought fs2 and yet i had all the files i needed earlier today
-
...
Well, where are those files?
-
ok i dug the files out of my trash and put them back in a folder. thanks, it works now

An interesting fact is that FreeSpace Open is not a game. FreeSpace Open is just a game engine that can be used with FreeSpace 2 (and some total conversions).
