Title: Vasudan voiceover filters
Post by: sigtau on June 19, 2009, 08:49:50 pm
In FS2, what kind of filters do you guys think Volition placed over the voices that were supposedly coming out of the Vasudan translator boxes?

I remember toying with the piece of Vasudan chatter that's provided in Audacity a while ago, it looked like they'd turn the pitch down, and played it slowly backwards. Maybe they did the same with the individual files?

Somewhere in the FS2 directory is a 20-second clip of Vasudan chatter. I just chop that up, rearrange it, play bits backwards, et cetera to get the desired length.

I overlay that with the desired dialogue. Compress the hell out of the speech, and then I monkeyed around in the equalizer for a bit.

Wasn't there a tutorial for how to get Vasudan speech hanging around somewhere?

Have a look at these (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,47842.0.html) three (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,48316.0.html) threads (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,62176.0.html).

I think he means the translated speech.

I think that FS1 Zods sounded better than FS2 Zods.

I'm talking about the *english* words that are produced from the translator box.  I'm already using the Vasudan Speech.

Get a little bit of water in your throat and speak in monotone, then do a high pass filter.

For some reason I really love the ST:R zod voice.

"Boom, boom.  Shivan Super Lasers shoot!"

oh man, hours of laughs...

(btw the 2nd squadron leader...whoever voiced him, was it on purpose that he names all wings "alpher" "beter"  "delter" and such??)

I liked ST:R's Vasudan voices because only the translated speech could be listened. Not that I'm complaining about the original Vasudan voice, of course, but I liked listening to the translated speech and nothing else. :)

He was a Brit doing an American accent, and for some reason he thought trailing vowels sounded like that.  We weren't able to get them all re-voiced by the release date.

As mentioned in the release, that was because we didn't have time to fully process all the Vasudan voice files.  That'll be fixed in the next ST:R release.

Do Vasudan voice files take a long time to do?
