Title: A New Dawn

I started work on A New Dawn over a year ago with Retail FS2. When I downloaded FSOpen I restarted the campaign. A New Dawn details the rise of the CIC (Commonwealth of Independent Corporations) against the GTVA following the Second Shivan Incursion. I put together a 6 mission demo which I can release today but Freespacemods.net is taking really long to upload the file. I'll post an update when I finally get it up. If you could check it out and leave feedback that would be great. Thanks.

I'm hoping to keep it interesting. However this is my first mod so bear with me. Still not up as of right now and achtung hasn't responded to an email I sent him an hour ago. So no idea when to expect it.

Oh no, it's most definitely not done. I'm sorry to say this, but in this state it is almost unusable. A few points you may want to address sooner rather than later:
1: On startup, FS greets me with 32 errors, caused by faulty tables and/or ship data.
2: A missing mod.ini means missing mediavp goodness, plus a good part of the aforementioned 32 errors
3: vps inside a vp cannot be used, IIRC

EDIT: Tried it with a regular build. While that one will actually load, the first thing I see when starting the first mission is a message about missing ship classes. This is not good.

Ok fixed it. I tested it before I put it into the .vp file. Due to my lack of experience using the .vp software, I put the file together wrong. Fixed it, tested it using the .vp version, it should work.

not fixed , 23 warnings on start up , the mission after the nebula mission you have no flight controls , and the hud is messed up ....and in the first mission AI is far to accurate ( the friendly AI that is )

There's no reason to use VP files at all for WIP things.

Just zip (or 7zip) the mod directory and post that. VP's are meant for end users, and you can learn the usage of VP file manager when you have something ready to distribute.

It's a lot more convenient for you and those who are willing to help in troubleshooting.

I'd advise going through your ships.tbm and make sure that ALL the XSTR entries are formatted like this:
XSTR("Hi. I'm a description, replace me please.", -1)

The -1 is important, because otherwise FS will try to look up the String you set in strings.tbl in order to locate a translated version. Since those descriptions for custom ships are definitely not in there, it causes errors.

i see you havent replied , i hope its not because you are losing heart ...;

i had a quick look i the last vp you posted ad there are lots of thigs that dont need to be there ...; so i choped out what i think should be there please have a look and compare the two together  as i mentioned earlier there is a problem with a mission and as you start the hud is displaced and you have no way to move your ship , i havent opened this in fred so i have no idea as to what the problem is ....

once downloaded you need to change the extension from   .zip  to .7z and use 7zip to unpack   ( my server refuses to let you download 7zip files for some reason

I looked throught .vp and discoverded that this mod can also use my HTL Valhalla (it was made for ITHOV ,but since it's just a HTL Raynor ,it should work ,they have exactly the same texturing).
I found this mod uses some outdated stuff.

You've got something here, don't go tossing it away because of a few comments about easily fixable errors. I want to see this finished. If need be just 7zip it like Herra said.

Extract everything from the VP file and put it in its proper folder.  Delete everything but the readme files, the mod.ini, the Hestia.vp, the six mission files and the campaign files.  Use FRED to change mission 6 from a red alert mission to just a scramble mission.  There is no red alert event in mission 5 so it doesn't carry anything over to mission 6.  This will get rid of all the errors and let you play the last mission.  The majority of the files in the VP are not needed for the demo.

I notice that the "data" directory of the mod has a duplicate "data" directory inside it, though I don't know if this is causing any of the problems.

Thanks for all the support and help you've given. Don't worry I'm still going strong with this. I actually was bedridden for a day and a half with some sort of bug. That's done now so I'm planning to get back to work. Thanks again, especially to Macfie, and sorry for not responding.

Thank you, Macfie, that worked. I played through the demo, and it definitely looks interesting. I have often wished that there were campaigns where the player gets to make big decisions. basnyy, Since you asked for feedback, here are some things that stood out to me:

Overall not bad (more than I've ever done :D ), considering that it's still in alpha stages. I would definitely like to see this finished.

Starfield.pof comes with the MediaVPs. Just set it as the skybox model in the FRED Background Editor.

Just saw this what stuff is outdated? I changed the Raynor for the one in Blueplanet. Also, did anyone have a problem with the choice for changing sides? I wasn't sure whether it was to obvious or not obvious enough.
