HLP staff, from now on, when you post a news article DON'T PUT IN ANY PICTURES!!!!
My modem can't handle all the images. Stop torturing my modem. Thank you.
-
My modem undergoes more torture from me than it does from the frontpage. Live with it. ;)

o cry, just because you cant afford something better then dial-up dosn't mean the rest of us have to suffer. jeez.:o
-
worked fine on my dail-up
-
Simple solution: Optimize those pictures. I was able to get the on.gif picture to go from 1139 bytes to 231...Tada!

Ewwww!

You call that optimised? :p
-
715, i don't think there should be a modem problem with that.

Is it my fault you run your monitor at 640x480 resolution and have the brightness turned up all the way? :p
-
He has a point, looks fine on mine - but I still like Setekhs inclusion of images in his posts - it makes it all so much more interesting for the reader even if it does add another minute to the loadup time

Grey Wolf and LtNarol (of the GTD Wolf and 158th Banshee Squadron respectively) have put out a call to arms! They need staff - Grey needs a Fredder and an ANI artist, while Narol addresses his request to "to all ye modelers out there, turreters, texturers, fredders, converters, artists, animation creators, and sound effects peoples". (Quite a broad spectrum, eh?) If you think you can help the Wolf, head here.0.html - while if you'd rather go for the 158th, send yourself here..0.html And you know what'll happen if they don't get the staff they need...

EDIT: Oh, how could I forget! Thorn And The Tappers need assistance on The Apocalypse Project - they need people who can resize COBs (trueSpace format), convert to POF, and add POF data. And you know what'll happen if Thorn and his goons don't get the staff they need...

Best to give them what they want. Thanks for your time, people!

I always magnify my pics. :p And that's Cleartype - AA'd text, right on your desktop. ;7
Oh, and I'm glad you like the news post. :D

1280x960
Degredation visible in red HLP logo thingy.

I'm on a modem when I'm at home, and I'm fine with the images... :p
-
Um, wow. I didn't noticed there was quite so many on the front page.
-
That's my point Shrike, there are way too many. Cut down on them, there are ways to do that you know.
And I can't even afford a dial-up. I steal it.
-
I know there are. I did it deliberately - it gets boring. :p
-
If you like images, you could just make the front page a really big render containing all the news and stuff... :D
-
Don't tempt me. :D
That said, I'll keep this in mind. I'll probably just have a bunch of much, much smaller thumbnails in the following news posts. :)
-
Bah! Just make a Hard and Light version...
-
Hah! Talk about a well-placed pun. Nice one. ;)
-
It's not such a bad idea actually... ;7
-
I agree. I'll talk to Cobalt about it.
-
Might be able to be done with XML, or just 2 versions of the news. Should be easy to have two versions of the news...
-
Could do. Darn you, now you've got my head thinking about how to implement this! :D
-
Have some sort of form such as below, then the PHP in the top of the page, then the php where the news goes.
//The form

Nah, dynamic files need to be on the dynamic server... it won't work. :)
-
Well, I'd post a link to Homeworld Universe as an example of how making the site on the Dynamic server isn't that bad of an idea...
BUT THE DYNAMIC2 SERVER IS DOWN! :sigh:
How about a good old-fashioned splash page? With a render, of course
-
I definitely wouldn't discount the possibility - I didn't for the Array, you'll notice. :)
But, the dynamics do go down a lot more often than the main servers. :doubt:
