An old gaming website, in their review of the Freespace alpha, for some reason posted some textures--and one of them was this beauty, the Lucifer texture used in the cutscenes, without any red on the front. Aardwolf found it!
Get it while it's hot!

Quick! Someone make a glowmap for this!

Link to site in question?

I'm getting Service Unavailable on every page there now...
-
Strange. It works perfectly fine for me. :nervous:
-
It does and then for some reason it won't. But it's working for me now anyway.

Not that I want to derail this thread, but speaking of FreeSpace Alpha - is it available anywhere? I recall one of the original testers for Volition visited about a year ago and he mentioned that he might have a copy. I can't remember his username unfortunately.

It seems to me that all it was (or at least early versions of it) is an EXE which played the video we know as the FreeSpace Alpha Trailer.
On topic, I've made Diffuse/Specular/Emission maps from this:
The diffuse map was made by subtracting the red from all components of the texture, normalizing it, and a few other tweaks (some done manually).
The specular map (-shine) had a bit too much purple for my liking, so I decreased the saturation in the purple areas. It was based entirely on the diffuse map.
I wasn't sure quite what to do with the blue tint in the emission (-glow) map, or whether or not to make that map brighter (e.g. around twice as bright), but I uploaded it without doing so because this way if you want you can do it.
They're .png files, but PNG uses lossless compression (unlike jpeg/gif), so converting them to .tga or making them into .dds won't be hurt by that.

... and now we need someone to make a texture for the HTL Lucy out of that :nervous:
-
Heh, Windows rounded the first image's size to 66.6 kb. How appropriate...
-
/me prefers 616
But really I don't care, because I'm not a Revelation fanboy.
Anywho, the green channel in the glow map is good at least, right?

Descent2.com? That's part of The Descent Network. They're the ones who originally hosted the absurd-res images of Descent: FreeSpace. I think they also had the FS2 source code too. Unfortunately, the Descent 3 and FreeSpace 2 sections of the site no longer exist.
