I just downloaded the backgrounds needed for blueplanet (lightspeed's nebulae) but I don't know where to place it!
Sorreh, but what folder does it go in? Does it go straight into the installation folder? (C:Game\Freespace2) or some other specific place?
Help please s'il vous plait.

Data/effects
-
Put it in your /mediavps/data/effects folder, not /data/effects. And you'll need the MVPs to run Blue Planet.
-
Listen to the General, he knows much better :p
-
Do I need to create a data/effects folder?
My folder says ....../freespace2/MediaVPS....
Are they in the wrong spot? :ick:
OH YEAH, 1 last thing (sorry xD)
Blueplanet is a .rar file, is that something I need to convert? How?
-
Yep, just un-rar it with WinRar or 7zip. Both free downloads.
Y'know, let me go look. Now that I've actually taken a moment to think about it, I don't think the Lightspeed nebula belong in /data/effects, because I think they're already included in the MediaVPs.
-
Mkay, thanks again.
-
Post if you have any tech support problems with Blue Planet. We'll get 'em fixed. It is my favoritest mod ever (though there are a few others of similar calibre you simply must play.)
-
Okay
-
Lightspeed's Nebulae are indeed included in the 3.6.10 MediaVPs. If you have the 3.6.10 MediaVPs, you won't need separate LS Nebulae. (If they weren't, the correct place for the .dds files would have been \freespace2\mediavps\data\effects\).
-
Make sure you're using the up-to-date version of Blue Planet, too... check in the Blue Planet board if you have issues. And be sure to look at the stickied threads before posting.

I extracted all the files from the folders I DLed to MediaVPs/data/effects, but it still isn't working. Is there something I'm supposed to enable? Wrong folder? Help please.
-
Which version of mediavps do you use?
They should be integrated into latest ones.
You may need to place stars.tbl in Mediavps/data/tables ,but it would be better to just get the latest mediavps.
-
I should have the latest version, 3.6.10, but I don't think I used that file correctly either.
I still need to convert it (I think), its a .7Z file.
-
... Indeed. The FreeSpace (Open) game engine reads .vp files. It does not read .7z files. You must extract the .vp files from the .7z files with an archive handling program of your choice.
I recommend 7-Zip, but WinRAR is also known to work.
-
Yeah, just extract the MediaVPs and forget about Lightspeed Nebulae. Those are present in the MVPs, after all.
-
So I extract them and keep them in the VP folder. Thanks
