I don't know if this can be done since I'm not really a FS2 modder, bu, how about a missle that pops out of the side of the fighter or a bomb that drops out of the bottom of the bomber before it begins to track to target?
-
no can do, FS2 automatically resets the normal on a missile to 0,-1,0, so it allways faces forwards...
note: this only happens on fighters/bombers, not sure what happens if you use 'freighter' tag...
-
probably the missile won't even home anymore.

I think it would...look at capships, they fire missiles all over the place...
I would try this but I think I'd better do my IRL homework and get working on some more AP models.

True, but a fighter's missile banks are fixed with set normals, a capital ship's missiles on the other hand are shot out of turrets.
-
right...but I am wondering if all secondary banks normals reset to 0,-1,0 or whatever straight ahead is, or if it is just on fighters and bombers.

No need, i've tried: missiles from capships don't home, tnhat's why they always use missiles like infyrnos that spawns other missiles.
-
Since I'm a fredder guy, I think it could be done with some table changes and really lots of events. :ha:

Of course they do. Look at fighterkillers- Cain, Demon, Typhon.
Here's an idea: put a missile turret on the bottom of the bomber. True, it would have infinite missiles and you wouldn't be able to choose what weapon it uses... or the target... but still.

Not true, I've been hit plenty of time by the missle batteries on the Demon. MX-52 I believe.

*the sound of pera whacking his head on a wall*
Of course you have! They are not homing themselves, but spawn many smaller missiles that do home!
-
MX-52s do not spawn missiles, however, they are heat-seekers, and as such self-target.
-
they can't use aspect seekers, but they can use heat seekers
so :ha:
(I like that smiley)

wait are you sure? I was useing the Screamer (just re-hash of the best aspect missile in FS2) on a shuttle (a bomber) and it fires at fighters fine (it even rotates the turret which looks cool) :D
