Freespace 2 came number 72 in Empire magazines top 100 games, with the modding community getting a special mention along with Beyond the Red Line. :D

Super Mario World? Final Fantasy? WTF????? The list is fubar. It looks like the console games are the best games ever.

Starcraft on 52... and even the "memorable for..." is not quite on.. korea anyone?
Monkey Island on 69... that's just wrong, and i didn't even play that game -.-

Sim City was 81 I think and GTA 4 was 16.

Virtua fighter 4? Why not Virtua fighter 4 evo? (evo is the much much more improved version of 4) Same for tekken 2 I guess, why 2 and no mention of 5?

Which is pretty cool but just that clip alone doesn't really show off why freespace is awesome for someone who doesn't know the game.

I'm quite pleased actually. Most top 100 games lists would have completely forgotten about us. And yet the one that does mention us gets all flamed.

Freespace deserves to be at least top 10. It's one of the main games I play, except for Freelancer.

let's get real... FS is an old game and it's a rare thing that old games get into any top 100 as it is. I suspect that it's there just because the responsible for this ranking is also a fan of Freespace 2 or he has some reserved love for it, otherwise the description of the game would have been somewhat poor and lacking details such as the BtRL project and such.
I also loved to see Double Dragon on the top 100 ^^
those guys have good taste... you see that's melancholy talking :P

I'm surprised people expected the game to be higher, I'm glad its on the list at all.
You've got to factor popularity of the games into it as well, which FreeSpace is unfortunately lacking.

come to think of it, most of the list is, too.
Deus Ex got 40? System Shock 2 got 21? This list stinks. :(
I love how they have Homeworld for 83, and they describe homeworld, but they have a homeworld 2 screenshot.

Memorable for...
Turing children into sociopaths. Although it wasn't the first game to use an immersive, first-person perspective, Doom was one of the earliest titles to put players in the shoes of their gun-packing avatar, provoking criticism that the game glorified violence and would surely warp the minds of an impressionable generation of gamers. Why anyone would think that is beyond… oooh, a chainsaw.
COD 4 is 4th!
Super mario is 1st!
(although I would have voted for Supermario 3 for Family game as 1st but it's kinda like the same thing)

I'm gonna go ahead and close this, since we already have a serviceable topic going over in the gaming forum (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,64134.msg1263892.html) that seems better-suited to the discussion. Feel free to rant and rave over there to your heart's content. If one of the global moderators wants to merge this with the other topic, feel free.
