We've been secretly working on some pretty nice stuff for Shadows of Lylat.
It has been quite a while since we released the first trailer, so it was about time release another one.
In this trailer you'll see a shot of the starmap, which you will see before you start a mission, as well as some new ice landscape shots.
Download AVI (720p xvid) (http://www.shadowsoflylat.net/media/video/trailer2_ice_xvid.avi)
or
Watch on Youtube (720p) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFnSvromImU&hd=1)
(watch in fullscreen to get real HD)
Our new hompage is up as well! It's still a bit empty, but we'll start adding some more content soon.

...maybe this the right point to mention that we're still looking for coders, scripters and at least one good sound engineer. ;)
-
SWEET MOTHER OF GOD.
Those...don't seem possible.
-
MY GOD. AMAZING WORK.
Was Nuke involved with the landscaping?
-
Put simply, ****. In a good way. :D
Doesn't seem possible in FS, as Battuta said.
-
Those screensots are just amazing.
I never played any Starfox games, so I don't think I can help you, but I'm waiting for SOL just because of those models (that's the best landscape I ever seen in FS).
-
Is...is this the same engine? Seriously? :eek2:
-
MY GOD. AMAZING WORK.
Was Nuke involved with the landscaping?
No, Nuke isn't part of our team. However, his scripting knowledge alone would be enough reason to let him join instantly, if he's interested.
The landscapes were created by me. Water fixed up some very nasty problems with the ice landscape.
Thanks to the corridor mode missions, we're able to build some fairly complex landscapes without too many problems. ;)
-
Looks very impressive!
-
Seriously, where did you guys get a copy of Freespace Open 4.31.20949?
Are you a time traveler?
-
Well, the engine may have some limitations, but once you know what can't be done, you can find some ways around the limitations and get do what you want anyway. Actually, thanks to the long development time and the number of coders, from all over the world, the engine has a lot of smaller, but pretty interesting features. I.e. what you might not even have noticed. We've used animated normal maps for the water.
We've been sharing some ideas with Diaspora. And the Diaspora coders worked on some features which SoL will use as well.
Nothing of that can be seen in this trailer, but you should expect to see some interesting things in the next trailers of these these two projects. :)
-
LOL it is highly probable that SoL will be the best Star Fox game EVER, and it's not even a licenced game, and it constitutes copyright infringement XD
-
Really impressive that you guys pulled this out of the engine
-

Just think of it as a huge ass fanfic!!! :pimp: besides, they are not making money out of it.
AMAZING! it's better than anything SoL related i have seen before /me bows and then goes away to save up for a new computer to be able to run all that
-
Wow. I never thought this was possible. :eek2:
-
Hot damn.
-
I watched it like 400 times. I"m so happy *tear*.
Ahem! I wonder if some music will have canon StarFox music embedded in it, but remixed. :)
-
FRAK YEAH!!!
That is all.
-
Glad to see people are finally waking up to just how hard SoL are pushing the engine. :)
-
:jaw:
-
DaBrain, me love you long time.
-

Ahem! I wonder if some music will have canon StarFox music embedded in it, but remixed. :)
we should get the OverClocked Remix guys to assist in doing that, they did some really great remixes of the original SNES and N64 music.
-
OC Remix is just a community site, not a team. They already have a composer, anyway.
-
Glad to see people are finally waking up to just how hard SoL are pushing the engine. :)
Well, their screenshots were always orgasmic.
-
My computer just shuddered in the fear that she will have to run this game sooner or later. Just... How high are the system requirements going to be?
-
The system requirements will be slightly above what you need to play FS2_Open at the best visual quality.
We'll also release a high-def package, with some very high-res textures (up to 4096²) for people with high-end machines.
The standard version is better optimized though and will only look slightly worse. All shots from the trailer were made without the high-def content.
-
:jaw: How can that ice shot possibly in FSO??? HNNNNNNG!
-
What's the plan for when Nintendo sends you the cease and desist?
-
Rename it to StarWolf?
-
We already have a contingency plan. (http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7149)
-
What's the plan for when Nintendo sends you the cease and desist?
If Nintendo wants us to, we'll stop the project.
However, so far we didn't receive anything from them. Dylan Cuthbert suggested that it should be fine, unless we tried to make money with it, as it will be considered to be fan-art.
Despite some people thinking otherwise, Nintendo doesn't have a history closing fan projects.
-
Wow, I'd always thought it would work.
Oh i have an idea for the charged laser, use a custom tag to fire a 3 shot burst and then another to switch to an entirely different weapon that is a instant lock aspect seeker and then it will switch back upon release
and for the megabombs, when the laser is charged the megabombs will switch to an entirely different weapon which has the same aspect homing status as the charged laser and upon firing the charged laser shot will just cancel ;7
I hope that it works for you and doesn't cause any parsing errors. oh can you give us a test map? like the SF64 training mission with all of the usable ships and usable weaponry including the wolfen
-
Amazing! I had no idea that the engine could do some of these things.
I'm curious: will water react to impacts?
-
Your site's banner animation is weird...
Edit: how did I know that was a link to the Battlestarfox post?
Also, all of the videos are in German, DaBrain! I don't know how to Wiederholen in a foreign language!
-
I am uploading the video to Gamespot Video to add more publicity. I tagged the thing in the starfox universe so it should generate some views. i'll edit this post once the video finishes uploading.
-
Uh. You really might want to get the team's permission...just in case. Unless you're on the team, in which case I apologize! Hard to tell.
Not that I think it's necessarily a bad idea, just for safety's sake with the cease-and-desist risk and all.
-

im not on the team, but as the video is now on youtube, i doubt it'd do much more damage to add it to gamespot. its not uploaded yet, i'll keep on hold for an auth...
But then again as mentionned earlier in the thread nintendo isnt in the habit of killing fan-made projects
-
You're right, it's probably just fine.
-
Oh dear god.
*orgasm*
Sadly, my woefully inadequate rig would be savagely torn to bits and melted by this mod...
*sob*
I really need to get a new comp.
-
Those screenshots are pretty. :)

Hopefully I'll have a new computer soon. (Some of you will know this already ;))

What does the terrain look like using the fixed-function renderer?
-
I never thought I'll end up doing this to express my opinion again.
/me fires an LRABeam.

Go ahead and post the link anywhere you want. ;)
What does the terrain look like using the fixed-function renderer?
Note: This isn't the final light setting(!)
I took these a few months ago.
Full quality - Shader 3.0, + normal¶llax mapping 16*AA high-end 4096² textures (high-end PCs)
Full quality - Shader 3.0 + normal mapping 2*AA standard 2048² textures (mid-range PCs)
Full quality - Shader 3.0/or fixed-function standard 2048² textures (older PCs)
(looks pretty much identical without normal mapping)
Medium quality - Fixed-function (T&L) (really really old PCs)

Done.
I have posted it on three separate places.
Gamespot (the video was compressed down to standard size, they don't have hd for user videos)
http://www.gamespot.com/snes/action/starfox/video_player.html?id=KnVmwzT75bIKvDDf It is currently in the "most recent" list of user videos so it should generate some views.
Megavideo (that one is in HD, you just have to tolerate the popup ad...)
http://megavideo.com/?v=EL9J3KY9
Veoh (did not come out in hd but is of better quality than gamespot's horrid quality. and unlike gamespot it can be fullscreened)
http://www.veoh.com/browse/videos/category/entertainment/watch/v18718353B2JpRDaM
Well if this doesn't give some publicity to the campaign, I don't know what will
EDIT: corrected typos
-
I'm patient :D
I can wait............................................
-
As long as I can play this maxed out on my Core 2 Quad Q6600 and my Asus 8800GT 512mb, i'll be happy
-
Holy ****. That's the most impressive thing related to FS2 I've seen in a LONG ****ing time. Looking forward to playing any sort of release; keep it up, fellas.
-
WOW!!! Just.... WOW!!
-
HOLY ****
Can you do that????
Just insane - talk about pushing the limits of the engine waaaay further than they were ever meant to go.
-
YOU.
ARE.
GOD.
And I worship you.
-
Needs combat. Moar lazors.
-
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
-
:jaw: I played Lilat Wars for N64 in my childhood with a friend... that pics and your mod are AMAZING, incredibly better than the original.
Are there going to be ground missions and units too?
Los de SoL sois los mejores, la puta hostia
-
Needs combat. Moar lazors.
Agreed thar.
-
Absolutely stunning. Amazing work to the entire team!
-
SWEEEEEEEET!
Question: Is that shot in the begining with all the planets actually in game?
-
Looks really good - but you got waaaay too much specular on the mapping. Can you simmer it down otherwise all the planets will look like they have been glassed.
-
The trailer has been reviewed by the Star Fox Blog Cast. ;)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAoaupzwz3w&fmt=18
Ok, time to answer some questions.
Are there going to be ground missions and units too?
A few missions will take place on planets, but you won't leave our Arwing.
If we can do it, there might be a mission in the Landmaster, but right now that's not very likely.
There will be AI ground units though.
SWEEEEEEEET!
Question: Is that shot in the begining with all the planets actually in game?
No, the pan in the beginning is pure prerendered CG.
However, I plan to render sequences like this before each mission. Either as fullscreen videos, or simply as small clips in the briefing.
Looks really good - but you got waaaay too much specular on the mapping. Can you simmer it down otherwise all the planets will look like they have been glassed.
The planets are supposed to look stylized.

You guys made it to Kotaku: http://kotaku.com/5317359/if-nintendo-wont-make-a-hd-starfox-these-guys-will
The comments are rather hilarious.
-
I'm not sure if "hilarious" is the right term if most of the first 100 comments compels me to feel like
mooning them flipping them off verbally abusing them using duct tape on their keyboards.
-
That's another way to put it, yes.

TEH ICE CAPS R MELTING!!!
I've never played Starfox outside of the one day playing Starfox 64 some long random time ago, I have to say despite this the mod looks goddamned impressive, I'll definately be giving this a shot when I can.
-
Those are very nice pics. Probably not the easiest to make either. :)
-
:jaw:
Am I dreaming?
-
I've only played Star Fox 64 and the original on an emulator.
But on 64 I unlocked Advanced mode, unlocked characters for versus, and got all but a couple of medals in Advanced mode. I think the ones I never got were Solar, Titania, and probably Sector Z. But I haven't played in ages, so I don't think I'd be anywhere near as good as I was that one summer when I did all of that. I think my high score is in the 1300's.
I'm actually worried the cartridge may die, because it takes several tries to get it to start properly. :(
-
Very nice job guys keep it up I'm definately playing this one.
-
Looks so good...but alas....my computer has a INTEL video card...i shall never be able to play full quality..it barely runs freespace 2 at high quality...and only runs smoothly wen i am looking away form any engines....BUT OMG DROOLS!!! what talent...
-
Well, if you computer is a desktop, you might as well start saving for a video card so you can play it better :3

It's a laptop....

Hmm, My high score was 1876 (i still have the cardridge ;) ), I had all the medals in expert mode, and remain undefeated in the multiplayer after hundreds of matches.
StarFox 64 was in my opinion the best arcade space shooter there ever was.
The only thing I never figured out how to do was how to score 277 hits on Venom(I managed 228 by blowing up Andross's two eyes simultaneously with a Nova Bomb)...Even Nintendo Game Counsellors didn't know, but I saw a screenshot of that score in Nintendo Power Magazine eons ago which means it can be done in a legit manner (but I still can't figure it out)
-
It was probably the 'normal' route venom, since that has more enemies.
-
I say owned. Epic win.
-
wow that looks insane congrtulations and well done!!! :) but i was wondering is Shadows of Lylat going to be a a stand alone mod kindah like TBP or will u need a a copy of FS2?
-
Standalone.
