Title: Chuck
Post by: Fury on July 03, 2009, 02:12:35 am
I recently had the pleasure to see a TV-show I hadn't even heard of before; Chuck.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0934814/

I was surprised how good it turned out to be after several episodes. It didn't have that good ratings even though it has a good fanbase. 3rd season almost didn't happen but is coming in May 2010, though it may be a short season if ratings aren't good enough. Also cameos old stars like Scott Bakula, Chevy Chase, Bruce Boxleitner and Arnold Vosloo over several episodes. Plus Yvonne Strahovski is hotter than should be legally possible. :pimp:

I recommend to watch this show. :)

Ah, Chuck...I'd forgotten about this show.

The latest episode had an awesome Matrix reference.

The series is about an "average computer-whiz-next-door" who receives an encoded e-mail from an old college friend now working in the CIA; the message embeds the only remaining copy of the world's greatest spy secrets into Chuck's brain.
I guess that's the shortest way to describe how the series sets off.

My name is Chuck. Therefore, this thread is mine.

Incidentally, I'm surprised that this show isn't more popular here. Is the main character written well? I figured people would've identified with him more.

It's "The Intersect",  basically Chuck is Johnny Mnemonic, when he sees certain things it keys the colossal database in his head to connect everything the CIA knows about the given subject.  It's these flashes that give him, his "fake" girlfriend from the NSA who works at the weiner place across from the Buy More and Steven Baldwin from the CIA who works at the Buy More with him, the clues they need to stop international arms dealers and spys from doing "really bad stuff".  In an unusual twist for a network show, the writing is typically smart and funny and the characters are over the top without being unbelievable.  And yes, the NSA chick is too hot for TV.

Casey is the NSA agent and Sarah is the CIA agent actually...but the rest is right :)

Love the show...I didn't see much of it until halfway through the second season.  Its a keeper.  Enjoyed every minute of what I've seen so far.

Don't forget good humor and brilliant character chemistry too. I think the actor choices are spot on. Baldwin and Buy More morons are funny as hell. :) I even enjoyed Chuck's and Sarah's fake relationship antics. Seriously, this is one of the best tv-series I've seen.

Season 2 finale/Season 3
Spoiler:
In the season 2 finale Chuck gets upgraded Intersect into his brain. Which apparently allows him to access pretty much any information, including kung-fu. I'm not sure whether this is good or bad. I enjoyed Chuck's character because he wasn't a super spy, he only had his smarts and the old spy-secrets-only-Intersect. But now I assume he can excel at close combat and firearms too whenever he needs to, which I'm afraid could destroy his character and make Sarah and Casey just sidekicks.

Spoiler:
Some of the interviews with producers/writers/whatever (folks part of the show) know that they would destroy the show if Chuck was suddenly the super spy guy.  Apparently accessing this information stored in the Intersect upgrade won't come easily.
So I don't think there will be too much to worry about.  I seriously cannot wait for the new season to start!
