one thing that really, really bugged me is the mission: a flaming sword where they try to blow up the knossos device with meson bombs. I played it several times and each time if I try to leave my wing with protecting the renenet while trying to lure the Shivans to the corvette, I end up getting killed. And the thing that really bugs me, when I lure the shivans in the trap, the damn corvette doesn't do anything. My wing get assasinated, the reinforcements doesn't do anything and the corvette doesn't help out. WTF.
The only way to have the corvette do anything is when my wing accompanies me and get killed in the proces before they arrive to the Renenet. Whoever wrote that in the mission should have his ass kicked. In any other mission the corvette would attack, but not there. That really doesn't make any sense at all.

You're the only one who has problems with that mission. Everyone else gets through it just fine.
-
Maybe engaging a bunch of shivans on your own is bad?

Is it? Alpha 1 should have no trouble with that :p

Play on Insane!
...where I had some trouble with this mission as well, I think.

The corvette kills the fighters just fine. I play on medium.
-
For this mission I usually just let the fighters do their thing, I give no orders. Just head back to the Renenet when they say the Shivans have accepted your challenge. Don't worry about your wingmen.
-
Even on medium, your wingmen along with yourself should have no problem destroying the initial fighters with minimal damage. It's faster to destroy those fighters yourself than to lure them back to the Renenet IMO.

absolutely true, in every possible way.
-
It's definitely faster to kill the fighters yourself, but you fulfill the bonus objective if you lead them back. Actually only you have to go back with at least one fighter, its really easy to do.

This mission is incredibly buggy. You'll generally be okay if you play through exactly the way the designers want you too, but if you do things out of order or have the bad luck to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, the mission will break and you'll be stuck in a dead-end.
Aren't the FSUP people fixing the bugs in this mission?
EDIT: I may have answered the wrong question. Mike, are you flying the Serapis? Try something more durable, like the Tauret.
-
I arm trebuchets on my tauret and go after the sathanas.
-
Yeah i got a similar problem here. I'm not sure, but i think the sobek fires in the beginning and stops. but i may be wrong, since i had my other fighters guard the Sobek.

I'm fine with the mission. Maybe your mixing me up with Mike.

I've played this mission just in the past two days and didn't have a problem. I did notice the mission dialogue says "wings of Maras" but the fighters are Astaroth class.

Indeed. Post edited. Thanks. :)

Thing is, when the difficulty gets harder, your guys get better as well as the enemies. If you have a 4 on 4 duel with the same fighters on each team, on easy you'll win as you're better than the AI, but on insane the AI is better so you'll probably drag your team down. Using your wingmen intelligently helps a lot.

Depends, if your playing on easy and you aren't that good, chances are the Ai will kill all your wingmen and when you get back to the sobek it barely fires because of the difficulty level being on easy. I suspect that's may have what happened to our TC.

At least three separate times I've played that mission only to get stuck when one of the transports doesn't leave.
It drops the bomb, and then just sits there and the mission doesn't go forward. I get past it on the next one, but it's still annoying.
-
well I play on insane level even on SCP the trebuchet aren't available and I fly the defeault fighter for that specific mission. It's like the mission to destroy the Ravanna. If you allow the enemy fighters to be destroyed, they keep sending more in. And with bombers it isn't easy. In the retail version if you order all the fighters to kill the initial fighters except for two that aren't near you, you can easily destroy the Ravanna without much difficulty.
But on the SCP that doesn't work as the other capital ships destroy any Shivan fighter near them, so you have to rethink your strategy on that one.
Still I do notice that the AI of the enemy improves on any difficulty, but not with friendly ships.
-
I use the Ptah in A Flaming Sword just for the fun of it.
Whenever I play it on Insane, however, my wingmen will always collide with me in the first two seconds and make me lose 1% hull.
-
I've had troubles with this mission myself, not troubles winning since I can take down the shivans myself, but as some of the users have said...
I've seen the corvette doing nothing at all while I was beated to death, and my wingman were useless, they died in the first 2 seconds even giving them orders to attack before the shivans arrived.
The second wave of maras (after the first meson fails to destroy the knosos) does nothing at all, they just fly around happily while I shoot them down.
I don't recall this kind of problems, but It can be because of something I did different too.

This is rarely a good idea in the Vasudan missions.

I know this is an old topic ... but I've had the same problem. The Corvette only fully engages part of the time - most of the time it starts to fire and the stops - it won't even defend itself against attack. When that happens I don't get the secondary mission objective complete for luring the fighters back even though I lured them back and got the "they have engaged you message".
However I did get it the secondary mission objective complete message on two attempts and then the Corvette engaged and destroyed the enemy fighters. So I think there is a bug on maybe some of the lower difficulty levels. I was playing on medium and yes I eventually passed by simply engaging the Astaroths and not worrying about the Corvette, but if this is a bug it should probably be looked at.
