Impossible. I've said too much already. . People who attend meets get advance previews of 3.11. And geomod.

Geomod, when applied to FreeSpace, theoretically allows you to blow holes in ships.

I'd like to see that in action. ;7

Oh yes! that would be awesome!
But something a bit more advanced would been really cool :
Dividing hull in subobject, each subobjet would have their own property like :
-Hp
-Bending property

depending on those two value you would have a bending or a breaking effect on the ship's part.

You can 'Hack' geomod with a whole load of destructible susbsystems.

Post by: Colonol Dekker on July 08, 2009, 11:53:07 am
That would be awkward to model and add a load of crap to each table entry too. ;)

True that. Which is why it's more of a hack :P

It would be kind of hard to implement anyway. How would it work? Would you have to design each ship with a destruction blueprint, or would you just show random parts for the hull you blow off?

It'd eat a whole ****load of polies too, since you'd need to model every inside.

There's a reason why nobody has upgraded the Boadicea.

If we don't update the Boadicea asteroid itself, we could at least have the HTL Iceni in the middle.

I don't think it's as easy as it would seem.

Well, it seems to me like all you need to do is get the HTL Iecni and then import the subsystems over top using PCS2...
Right?

I assumed if it was that easy someone would have done it the day after the original was released.

Never assume!  It makes an ASS out of U and ME :)  (ASS/U/ME)

But I guess it SHOULD be harder than just this  ;7

Uh... no, the ass is only out of anything if you cut it up like that. And even then you're misspelling 'you'. Also, I hate that stupid saying, and wish it would die.  :P

It sounds insanely difficult to do... and yet if it happens, thats why it would be THAT MUCH MORE EPIC

(is indeed talking about blowing holes and bending.)

I assume ^ is talking about the bending and blowing holes in ships, not a HTL Broadicea

The closest you'll probably get is the high-poly Hecate (thanks to yours truly) since all the turrets, glowpoints, and engine glows have to stay on permanent geometry.

Nah, we should just opt for damaged looking low-res textures for all ships. Near 20% hull integrity, and you go from looking like an htl herc 2 to retail herc 2.

For all we know, Decals could be in the works.. ALthough there are Damage decal references in the tables somewhere already i think. :o

It is, but as a dummy, only used for backward compatibility.

Then we must work towards active battle scarring......Persistant scorch-marks............And ......................umm.

Suggestions?

Rofl, damage decals suck. I did test out the damage decals back in 3.6.7. They just didn't look good. Something simpler like ships just emitting fluffy sparks when they get hit was better.

No.

I'd also like to see some persistent scarring, actually. But preferably without being dependent on GLSL, because my lappy sucks.
