Torchwood Series 3 /spoiled for her protection
Who are the 456?
What do they want?
Why do they want it?
How is Jack and Co. gonna stop them.
Quite simply the 456 are interstellar con artists. They want 10% of the Earth's children. They want them because they're tech is biologic and they need components. The reason they are con artists is becuase they are holding a pair of dueces. They're tech is biological, yet other than a single "carrier" with a child hooked up as some kind of CPU or memory storage or whatever and that virus at the end of part 4, we have yet to see any kind of ZOMGDEATHRAY! from them. They are masters of the biological, they're weapons of choice are viral or chemical. The reason they're ship hasn't been detected is because there isn't one, not in orbit anyway. They probly have some kind of ship on the far side of the moon, that "pillar of fire" being 1% teleport, 99% light show. The thing in the tank was probably engineered to play on the built in fear mechanism to keep up off balance. How are Jack and Gwen gonna beat it? I'm willing to bet that that thing in the tank, which had 3 heartbeats, is the only 456 there is or one of only a few. So Jack and Gwen are gonna do it, ride the teleport back to the alien base and do the other ones and that'll be the end.
Oh, as an aside, Lois is the new Ianto, the anti-terrorist chick is the new firepower and some as yet unidentified person will be the new Tosh/Owen. Possibly even Capt. John might come back.
Saw it last night. Absolutely loved it. Best Torchwood series yet. Even if it was shorter than the others. It's a symbol of the BBC's belief in the show that they moved it to primetime on BBC1.
The ending was especially good/nasty. Captain Jack had to pay the ultimate price for his indifference in turning over the first set of children. I was wondering why Bridget Spears only kicked the Prime Minister out and not the other minister who suggested using the children from the failing schools but then I realised that she wasn't out for justice so much as revenge against the guy who got Frobisher killed.
All in all it was just as dark and nasty as I expect Torchwood to be. :)
For those who haven't seen it, here's the trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-RsdkaIihA).
The ending was karma for Jack. He turned over the other kids in the past and didn't care. This time his choice was to turn over one kid he cared about or repeat his mistake by turning over millions he didn't know.
And you can complain all you like, what would you have done in the same position?
